2009 172 Project

I used to have a clio 1.2 RT but is was too slow so got a vts (im not a gypsy), for a bit more power.

Now got rid of the vts and come January i am getting a 172 mk 2.

The plan is to get it:
lowered,
team dynamics pro race 1.2s in black,
BMC induction kit,
Exhaust system,
remapped.

trying to get it nearer 200 bhp

got about £1.5k to spend on modding.

Well Tupps, a member on here has a 172 Cup and he got 183 bhp with just exhaust and a rs tuner.......... im sure some others will have more

To get 200 bhp you're looking at ITBs or a whole range of internal and external engine mods.

Check out this thread http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=379120 sounds like he's opted for 182 exhaust manifold, decat, 182 inlet manifolds matched, a 182 head and cams. He's hoping for around 200 bhp I think (200bhp/tonne so if he strips some weight out maybe 195bhp).

The 172 4-1 exhaust manifold is technicaly better for making power. I'm sacrificing a bit to add mid range torque which a 4-2-1 (i,.e. 182) manifold tends to do.

The 172 and 182 cylinder head is the same, its just I had a 182 head spare.

The engine should make somewhere around 200bhp, possibly a smidge over 200bhp.

200bhp is entirely possible from an F4R 730 on single throttle body/plenum intake setup. Much over that becomes the issue!

The GDI website say they can take a 172 to 197 bhp with inlet manifold, cams, and ecu and remap... for a price lol think its £1,550? but cant get onto the page atm to double check that...

Yep cylinder head flow capacity and valve size is more than enough to make 200bhp, inlet manifold as standard is a bit rubbish but there are some changes that can be made to help the issue (main one being the extremely tight bend/drop off the primary runners out of the plenum, notice how this changed on the 197!). Few changes to the induction/filtration setup and exhaust system to minimise losses and over 200bhp is attainable.

I'd guestimate about 208 is the most you'd see on the standard manifold though. 197 manifold would work well but won't fit under the bonnet!

Ktec and GDI do kits. I think the kit is 2600 from Ktec, look at my link above. I don't think that is fitted.
