mine went and had to have an engine rebuild, wasnt happy as the car went in for a service about 2 months b4 it happend. i had done about 38000 and the car was about 4yrs old. still isnt fixed properly

I was quoted between £450 and 500 quid for the cam belt change inc all the pulleys etc. Im in Devon as well so where can it be done cheaper?

My 172 MK1 has done 31k and is just over 4 years old. Need the belt changed this year.

182 sport yes 24 k service... but its the 36 k seems to be expensive ...

Had my belt done at 44k on my mk1 172, coming up to 5 years old, cost me 300 quid at an independent garage. If its not under warrenty sod servicing at Renault, do it yourselve, oil filter, oil and air filter are hardly rocket science to sort yourselve for a qtr of Renault prices.

If your 172 is around 4 year old no matter what mileage, get it changed!!!! Ive read so many times about 3/4 year old 172s with snapped belts and very expensive rebuilds, why bother risking it!

the whole kit from renault is £113.00 (172 ) belt /tensioners /idler good value.

we fit loads of kits now.

kit for a 1.4/ 1.6 should be about £ 82.00 + vat if that helps!!!

I think if you check with Renault u.k- you can now get your service done at a Non-Renault garage&it doesnt affect your warranty.
I did this with my 12k service&it only cost me £73!!

yep that is about what we charge for 1st 12k... must be genuine parts though , and not in 1st 12 months of warranty...

Jus to add that it couldnt of been too bad a job as it was done 2 days before the GDI Rolling road day. No air filter changed thou as i told them not to bother jus polish up the piperX a bit

No worries, Ive used them before and they have got a good reputation i.e. deal with BeeEms, Porsches etc
Its a special tool for the cambelt isnt it? Whats that called?

its just the locking kit for the cams etc... they will need to replace the 2 plastic plugs at the g/box end as well. this will show if they have done it properly..

ben your 1.2 is the same... 70k or 5 years whichever is sooner.
