550-'relay not permitted' help

Alreet!

I've just moved a load of my websites from a crappy host iv had for 2 year to a new one! Mostly going well, but been a right pain in the arse moving them all including SQl databases and emails etc.

Anyway, i've shifted one over and attempting to get the emails working. All setup OK, I can log in and send emails from the new email account.

But when I try and email TO the account or reply to the email I get the following error back:


The following message to <rich@eastmidsit.com> was undeliverable.
The reason for the problem:
5.1.0 - Unknown address error 550-'relay not permitted'


I've tried from home and work and its the same. Its not a problem my end, has to be with the new email account somehow!

Any ideas before I log a ticket with the hosting company?

so you can send from rich@eastmidsit.com but when you reply from a different email you get the error?

you tried to reply to the email from different accounts like yahoo/hotmail?

yeh thats right mate!

iv emailed out to that address from both home and work and both get returned as failed, so its as though its not routing through to the email address correctly, but its routing out fine.

I'm guessing you're using smtp authentication to send email which is why it works outbound, they let anything through if you're trusted to the server.

It's an email server configuration issue, the domain needs to be added to their mail server configuration. At present their mail server does not know that this domain is hosted by them, hence it thinks you're trying to relay (spam) from their server.

iv just changed the MX settings on the new host so its working now, forgot about that ooops!
