Emma's 172 Cup Progress Thread (Pic heavy and essay content)

Well after owning the Cup for nearly 3 years and after starting the modding I thought I'd start a progress thread.

So when I bought the car back in September 2008 it looked like this:
Image000.jpg

It was completely standard when I bought it. I wish i'd known about cliosport.net when I was looking to buy a Clio as to be honest I probably wouldnt of bought this one and shopped around a little more.

So anyway as soon as I got it home out came the standard head unit and in went a Sony Bluetooth unit:

DSCI0983.jpg

And a smaller ariel went in:
DSCI0978.jpg

The car stayed standard for nearly a year then this happened:

It was replaced by this:
DSCI0972.jpg

A Janspeed Catback.

Yes I know that its not a very nice exhaust and I do actually really hate the look of it although it does sound good. But I was in need of an exhaust and I still didnt know about this place so off I went to the local exhaust centre.

Then came some new number plates. The front plate didnt look too bad, but the rear plate was awful. So these came as a birthday pressie.

I would of loved to put on a 3/4 plate on the front but the car already screams "Please stop me Mr Police Man" so I kept it at standard size:
DSCI0970.jpg

DSCI0968.jpg

Next on my list was a desperately needed wheel refurb. The guy who owned the car before me must have loved kurbs as every wheel was absolutely trashed.

So they went into the garage looking like this:

146bc884.jpg

338a35ab.jpg

b9b265d0.jpg

And came out looking like this:
DSCI0600.jpg

I was a bit undecided on the colour to have the finish in but I'm so glad I chose the anthracite.

As I was happy with the way the car was looking it stayed as it was for about 6 months, then a caught the modding bug as I found cliosport.net:
DSCI0976-1.jpg

So then I decided to spray the diamonds and the bullets the same colour as the wheels. The official colour of the wheels is Aston Martin Sparkling Anthracite but BMW Sparkling Grey was a near perfect match plus I could get a spray can from my local Halfrauds:
DSCI0966.jpg

DSCI0965.jpg

DSCI0967.jpg

DSCI0969.jpg

After my fun with a spray can I wanted to do the side strips as they were looking a bit tatty and tired now. I actually quite like that they are matte and different to the rest of the cars paint work so I kept them that way:
DSCI0974.jpg

Then came a Pipercross air filter:
DSCI0844.jpg

Then some Osram Diadem bulbs:
DSCI0982.jpg

Then came a pair of strut braces courtesy of marinemackay2003:
DSCI0964.jpg

Sorry I havent got a picture of the rear one.

I was then fed up of the nasty calipers so out came some yellow caliper paint:
DSCI0986.jpg

DSCI0987.jpg

Also in the nasty snow we had, I managed to kurb one of my wheels so I set to making it look a little better until I can get it refurbed again:
DSCI0935.jpg

DSCI0931.jpg

DSCI0932.jpg

Then came some Mark Fish top mounts courtesy of Daniel. But while I was waiting for a friend to help me fit them I purchased a set of Eibach Sportlines!!

So Mounts:

Then I went to the Gadget Show Live. Seeing the cars there with the sound systems made me want to put mine in the Clio. It had only been sat around on the floor at home as something was broken when I took it out my last car. I was pretty sure it was the amp that was broken so I purchased a cheap Ebay jobby. I had guessed correctly, with my new amp the sub was booming away so in the car it went:
DSCI0985.jpg

This is how the car is today. Its recently had a front end respray and a set of new headlights courtesy of Mr Insurance which has made the car look like new again.

Did well not to hit the barriers (maybe more luck than judgement... definitely would have been the case if it were me lol!!). Bet the car that was holding you up for the entire minute previously (Lancia?) had a good old chuckle when he went past ;)

Great read :)

Its safe to say I was shitting myself when that happened. All i could see was barrier and the also the BMW 3 series that span in the exact same place heading straight towards me. Very very lucky there without a shadow of a doubt.

It looked like a Lancia but it certainly didnt go like one.

I don't like the sub in the boot, number plate, aerial or your track wheels. The rest is good though.

Ok video found.

Im ready from the abuse. The spin is at abot 9.40 if you dont want to watch it all.

Sounds to me like you got on the power before the apex then lifted off. Lucky you didn't take the nose off on the barrier.

track wheels ain't even in here. But they are awful

And the plates were a birthday pressie. I knew nothing about them.

And as already admitted. Female fail for the spin :S

Update!!

So time for an update as I've done a few more things to the car.

So firstly for an impending track day I changed the gearbox oil and brake fluid and put some braided lines in:

Brake20Fluid20RF1000.jpg

Then I decided to paint the callipers again as the Halfrauds own stuff was rubbish so this time I opted for Hammerite:

calliper.jpg

Some RS mats were purchased:

DSCI0999.jpg

Some aero wipers:

DSCI1006.jpg

Then I was asked if I'd like to borrow a smaller steering wheel for my upcoming track day. Of course the answer was yes please!!! I've now decided to keep it I love it that much.

DSCI1002.jpg

So after my track day the brakes pads ended up looking like this:

f5299201.jpg

981c5e40.jpg

So these were needed:

brembo.jpg

ferodo1.jpg

Also came with some extras. Yum yum:

sweets.jpg

The car now has awesome stopping power. I had always thought that the standard brakes were good but this set up is so so much better.

I then painted the wing mirrow covers that have been all scuffed since I bought the car:

DSCI1007.jpg

Made a new camera mount as my last one that I had failed miserably and recorded mostly sky on my last track outing:

mount.jpg

It was then birthday time and I got an alloy foot plate:

DSCI0998.jpg

Then this came:

DSCI0997.jpg

DSCI1005.jpg

It was like christmas morning when it was delivered. After an 11 week wait I couldnt wait to get it on the car. Only put it on today so cant really tell if its made a lot off difference yet but from what I've driven already its definetely doing something.

So thats whats happened to the car over the past few months. The only thing im planning on doing to it now is repainting the callipers AGAIN after coming into the pits after a track session with the brakes smoking and paint melting off the callipers:

DSCI1004.jpg

They are going to be taken off, sanded down and repainted with this:

paint.jpg

This should hopefully withstand the heat created unlike Hammerite which was absolutely paints!!!!!

Thanks for reading!! :)

So its been a while since I updated my project thread. Well I haven't done anything to the car so no real need to until this week.

Only two minor additions but gave me an excuse to give the car a much needed wash and take some photos with my DSLR as I hadn't taken any yet.

Oh please excuse the lack of tyre shine . I forgot to take it with me when I went to clean the car.

So the small additions are some new grab handles. Bought these pretty cheap off here with the intention of spraying them, but they were in such good condition i decided to leave them as they are:

Also reprayed the front diamond as it was all stonechipped:

So that's all I've done to the car recently. Still haven't got round to spraying the calipers again yet, but it will be done at some point.

So some piccies: (and yes, I got a little carried away)

I hate my exhaust, although it does sound great. I know it gets some grief so I took a picture of it lol.

I keep meaning to investigate getting a swap but haven't got round to it yet.

That's about as good as I can get it to sit.

Only just had a new mount as the last one failed within a year. Think it might be too heavy for the standard mount. May have to look into getting an uprated one. And I'm certainly not cutting the bumper

Crying out for an exhaust as said. Those calipers have probably got more paint on them than the rest of the car the amount of times they've been painted lol.

Tidy. How much was the wheel refurb? Mine look in a similar state and i want anthracite! Also, what would you have used for 'refurbing' the interior grab handles? mine are buggered.

The wheel refurb was just over £400 including 4 new tyres though. Think it was £50 a wheel for the actual refurb. Probably a little more now as it was nearly 2 years ago I ad it done.

Well, I'm currently refurbishIng my old grab handles to sell on if your interested ;).

If not I've just sanded down, primer and colour.

I know. They are coming off and being completely stripped of all paint this time then hopefully they might not melt lol.

Less braking more carrying speed ;) In fairness it might be something silly like the paint reacting and less to do with the actual heat in the calipers. Stripping them right back is the best move though so hopefully this time it'll stay put.

I would like to point out that they were melting after someone else drove the car not me ;). I had no problems with the brakes all day, my friend however cooked them lol.
