A load knocking sound??

every so often on start my 2002 clio dci 1.5 produces an extremely loud knocking sound comin from the cylinder block, it doesnt allways happen although has become more frequant, more often than not the noise will disapear after 5 mins? what is this? does it need sorting straight away?

p.s i have oil in.

When does it make the sounds does it differ with revs etc?

Could be the TDC sensor

You'd need to get the car to Renault realy the dci engine is a pain its completly computer controlled injectors etc shouldn't be messed with.

hi yes it seems to get alot quicker as the speed increases but it never varies in volume!

sounds expensive if ive got to go to renault!! im not mechanical minded at all so have no idea what a tdc sensor is can anyone explain? is there anythin i can do the try to and narrow down what the problem is!!

The quickest option is to take it to a main dealer, who'll have the correct diagnostic equipment.

It could just be a code fault in the ECU that can be cleared, if not it would have to be a new TDC sensor.
