Adapting mk2 ph1 wiring to fit 172 dual optics?

  BMW M5 & E36
I've seen a guide mentioned on here before but I havent been able to find anything.

Does anyone know what is involved?

Thanks all,
Chris :quiet:

need to split full beam and dipped beam from 1 bulb to 2, and install a fuse to make sure the dipped beam stay on with the full beam in operation.

Ive got the wiring diagram somewhere (yes its lost!). Split the earth at both sides, then wire the high beam wire to the h7 bulb and the low beam wire to the hb3 bulb and earth them both with the split earth wire. The connections for servos, indicators and sidelights are same. Next you just need to pop an extra red fuse in the fusebox to keep the sidelights on with the low beam to pass a mot.

From your existing wiring find the black wire, which is earth.

This needs to connect to the main, dipped and side light bulbs earth side.
The wiring is such that the main and dipped are earthed at the same point on the new headlight unit. The sidelight will need a new wire.

On one side

The blue wire is the sidelight.

The green wire is the dipped beam

The cream wire is the main beam.

On the other side

The blue/red wire is the sidelight.

The pink wire is the dipped beam

The cream/red wire is the main beam.

Make sure there are 10 Amp fuses in position s 26 & 27 if not put them in, this will make sure the sidelights work.

Yeah that sounds right although I dont think the wires are the same colour on both sides, the sidelight wire should have the same connector on as the old type so thats ok.

Phwoar, only just read this and that flew straight over my head, I'll have another read tomorrow when I'm not quite so tired.

Would anyone be willing to fit them for me for a few ££?! Prepared to travel.

Basically your car has 3 wires either side that is your current H4 single light setup, on each side there is a wire for Low beam, high beam and earth. For each side you need to just split the earth wire into 2 for 2 bulbs.

Left Main beam Green - to H7 bulb inner
Left Dipped beam Beige - to HB3 bulb outer
Left earth Black - to both bulbs
Right main beam yellow - to H7 bulb inner
Right dipped beam white/red - to HB3 bulb outer
Right earth Black - to both bulbs

Just split the black into 2 and wire to the 2 bulbs and connect the others as above.

You need some wire and connectors from an electrical place or halfords.

Hella/renault actually make an adapter but good luck trying to find one.

This pic shows my wiring on my old car.

Hi my first post, i recently bought a clio 1.6 rxe and wanted to change the headlights to dual optics one. i found a guide but have to be a paid member. Is there any point in me becoming a paid member with my puny 8v engine or is there useful content even for me?

Anyway I need help with something please, I came across this:

Basically your car has 3 wires either side that is your current H4 single light setup, on each side there is a wire for Low beam, high beam and earth. For each side you need to just split the earth wire into 2 for 2 bulbs.

Now Ive got the light, waiting for the connector but Ive got another problem, I have actually got 4 wires in my current H4 setup. 2 Yellow/Beige, 1 Green and 1 Yellow and Black. This is completely against everything Ive read online. Help please.
