ADD 20BHP TO YOUR CAR

I was looking on ebay the other day and I came across this "ADD 20BHP TO YOUR CAR" and I thought Yeah right my arse!

But anyway I clicked on it and read the description, and I thought well for £3.99 I was curious to see what they were actually selling?

Payed for it and whatever and it came the next day through the post in an envelope, opened it up and found a RESISTOR!! (4.7kohms to be precise), Read through the instructions and facts about what it does and thought why not?

Anyway I fitted it to my 172 and I swear down, no joke! I can really feel the difference in performance at low revs and it now makes a real nice sound from the engine on full throttle. IMPRESSED!!!???

Anyone tried this themselves??

Heres the link below, which tells ya more info.

It fits to the Air Intake Temperature Sensor in between the air intake box and the throttle body.

All you do is unplug the sensor and stick the resistor between the two connectors and it tricks the ECU into thinking its sucking in colder or warmer air than normal (not sure which one) but it works!

this was posted before, apparently it can actually damage the engine cause it makes the car run too rich or somthing, deffinatly take it out if I were you !

It works by tricking the ecu, you basically put the resistor across one of the sensor inputs, which fools the ecu into adjusting the mixture.

lol, No to be honest I was gonna take it out anyway cos obviously it cant be doing the engine any good?

What damage will it cause if I do leave it in anyway??

Put it this way. Im no expert, but if renault could really have improved on the performance by fitting a 20p resistor (that you coughed up £3.99 for  ) then dont you think they would have done?!

I just fitted 2 of them and the figures from the weekend speak for themselves 212bhp :p

Seriously folks if you think that a resistor can actually get you this sort of gain ....... well youve paid £3.99 for a very good lesson - you get what you pay for, and bhp dont come cheap - catch me in the pub sometime and Ill tell you a story (And itll only cost you the bargain price of one pint ;))

ill do you a deal fella, ill get you a pint if you take me out in the beast so i can see how it goes now its got 212bhp:D, obviously in the interest of safety the pint will be after the drive

well i tell ya what ill drive you home(in your car of course:D) because by the time youve got through all those pints youll be totally bladdered

mate, I would take it out. I have heard nothing but bad news about these.

can cause long term damage. Have never tried (never will) it myself, but can only go on what people have told me.

basically the ECU will be pumping more fuel in, without more air, which could potentially cause quite a bit of damage, especially when ragging it!!!

i could have got you one from work for nothing, infact i could have got you 100s for nothing! ive heard that it damages the car as well but im not exactly sure how

it would be good if we could do some research into this, if you think about it when you stick an induction kit on your car you are increasing the air so this "chip" could compensate (or does the ecu do this already???) perhaps we could develop it and saves ££££ against superchips???

mikecarr4,

I have this great add on that will increase performance by at least 50bhp, post me a cheque for £150 and Ill send it to you with instuctions on how to fit it. Trust me, IT REALLY WORKS!!!!;)

Go easy on him lads... He only did it for a joke, Im sure he car afford to lose the grand sum of £3.99! He was just saying that there is a difference... Hes not saing he believes that it is 20bhp or that it is good for his engine... Just that it does something!!! So play nice!

LOL good call Nicky.

Itll be sending a signal to the ECU that shows more airflow, hence the ECU commands more fuel. At certain points in the revs this blanket increase in fuelling may slightly improve response, at others it will lessen it by over-richening the mixture. Without knowing the value of the signals output or hooking up a gas analyser to the tailpipe or getting a lamda reading to see how its running, you cant tell for sure how rich. Probably not so rich that youre getting bore wash but who knows. Anyway running rich is nowhere near as bad as running too lean. Still Id take it off if i were you, but for £3.99 who cares if its a swizz lol!:D

What made me chuckle was in this months Japansese Performance (or maybe Banzai, I cant remember) some geezer with a modded Evo that he actually rallies apparently, engine properly worked over and everything, and hes got some turbolater device in the intake to increase airflow or something.

well when i go pod ill do some runs then put one in (i will steal it from work not pay 3.99 ) let u know how it goes or some1 shud rr 2 time 1 with 1 without??? any offers? i will supply resistors
