Advice Oil Change

Changed my oil and filter last night on the valver.

Recomend using the smaller filter.

Anyway drove if for a while last night and all semmed fine. Got home and no leeks but forgot to look at the level. Get in the car this morning and the meter inside the car only reads half full. Didnt have time to check so got a lift into work and left the car at home.

Any idea? I torked the sump nut to the correct setting. So its gotta be coming out the filter or not?!?!?!

when you were putting new oil in did you let the car tick over a couple of times??? - if you didnt you have prob only half filled!!

*you could have a dodgy gauge best to check the dip stick??

*check for signs of any oil around the filter/floor

it run for a while after and cheeked it again. Cant remember how much exaclty i put in coz my friend was mesuring it. But we put a whole 4 litres in. So it should read more than what it did. Will have a look on the dip stick when i get home from work. It was working ok before i did the change.

doesnt the valver take more than four litres ?

isnt it 5 ?

forget the guage inside the car, check the dipstick, its a lot more accurate

My valver took 5 litres to the top mate !! add another litre

yer i didnt mean i put 4 in. More like 5. Just ment that it should of shown more than half full if i had put 4 litres in. If that makes sence. just that when i did it and the ay before the gauge read right near the top and this morning its right near the middle but i will have a look tonight.

The guage in the car isnt that accurate TBH and if i sit and keep turning the key round to see the oil level it changes and fluctutates, its never the same !!

I live in birmingham BRUN but will travel to see and be in a clio GTT

tom..........im not sure about the gauge mate, but the dipstick does NOT show empty and full

it shows a minimum level of oil you should have in the car, probably 4 litres, and the maximum you should put in.......

yer i think it will be ok just when i went out this morning i didnt have anything to wipe the dip stick so i went by the gauge but like u said it prob isnt the most acurate thing. Will have a proper look this evening but im sure it will be ok.

The gauge doesnt tell you if your tank is half full or full or empty etc etc, it only tells you how much of the last 1.2ltrs you have iirc.

It should of taken jsut over 5 ltrs for a full drain and filter swap.

its fine even if the gauge is near the bottom, jsut top it up nxt time.

yes the dash gauge only shows the level between the min and max marks on the actual dipstick.
