Air filter / Air box mods 172

Air filter / Air box mods 172, i had a mk1 golf gti many moons ago
and with the standard air box someone suggested to put a few large circle shaped holes to allow more air to get in
do you think this would work on the 172 with a uprated pannel filter

iam talking about a couple of holes not like a chunk of cartoon cheese
HE HE :)

Reckon it will let more air in but more than likely hot air if there is no cold air feed. So in weather like today ~24 deg you will probably loose power.

I just finished my custom air box yesterday. I ditched the the standard and made up a steel home brew with 75mm pipe out to lower grill. Ive got a K&N 57i kit inside the air box. Things are certainly more responsive. Did some temp tests today with it being hot. Max temp differential between internals of air box and ambient was 2 degs with a mix of 30mph and 80mph motorway driving.

The air box is made from sections of 1mm mild steel braised together. The outside of the box is covered in self-adhesive heatshield material. The beading on the edges is the same as the strip that runs along the front of the bonnet, butting up against the underside of the bonnet, semi-sealing the air box. The air intake is part of a Pipercross 75mm ramair kit feeding directly from the grill to the air box (butterfly air valve removed). The box is held in place by two 10mm bolts so can be removed in about 10 minutes if required. The wire you see on top of the box is my temporary temp sensor.
