alloy wheel insurance issue!!

Hiya, im a 17 year old lad with a 1.2 mk2 phase1 MTV....my insurance company will not insure me on aftermarket alloys unless the car originally came with alloys. Does anyone know if the MTV had alloys as standard?? and if not some useful tips on making steel wheels as cool s possible would be very helpful!!

nope the mtv never came with alloys could always paint the wheel trims black/grey or fit ones from newer models

+1, they arnt gunna void your policy over a set of wheels, look how many cars have different alloys on, think how many are probs not declared

I wouldn't recommend fitting alloys and not declaring them, given how many new drivers have accidents (whether at fault or not) you don't want to risk losing your payout if the unthinkable does happen.

Either find an insurance company who won't have a spaz attack over non-std wheels, or as above remove the wheel trims and roll on steelies

A had a Clio MTV came with steelies and different wheel trims from standard
As for not declaring alloys don't be stupid they WILL void your claim they did with me and ended up 5k out of pocket !

You doughnut. Insurance companies will even void policies over undeclared audio equipment. They'll do anything to get out of paying.

If it didn't come on the car from the factory it won't be insured with this particular insurance company.

then non std tyres must void policies too? how about half of cs who run decats?! theyre illegal yet people seem way too quick to jump on people who dont declare mods.

It's one thing not declaring and knowing there is a risk, but you were actively saying it was ok and there would be no repercussions. That is the part people have issues with.

Might be an idea to ehck if your insurer will cover banded steels as well

depends on your luck my mate smashed a 1.0 corsa with a 2.0 turbo conversion and was painted a different colour, it had not a single mod declaired and was repaired without question.

admiral told us they wouldnt sort my sisters lupo 1.4 Sport until we had paid the difference in premium for the bodykit and exhaust, wanted £300 odd quid for it, they soon retracted that when they were told to google the thing!!!

i wouldnt bother declairing mods, just dont crash!

Change your insurance company imo.

Once you change the wheels you will want to change something else, just go with a company that specialises in mods and young drivers.
