Amazing insurance quote for R27

  White clique
Hi,

i have been toying with the idea of getting rid of my 182 for an R27, but having just bought a flat i thought there was no chance, and that the insurance would cripple me.

I pay £545 fully comp for an 04 182 via Privilege, no points and 9 years no claims, 28 yrs old, £350 excess.

I decided out of curiousity to do a quote on confused for an R27 - and it came back as £365 fully comp with legal cover from esure!!!!! :)

All i need to do now is work out a price for mine, an R27 second hand is looking to be around 13k, it can be done!! I'm well pleased - i might even be able to re-loan and get my montly payments cheaper as my current loan via Tesco's is on a pretty poor rate.

Getting an R27 might even make me better off each month - result!

Halifax came through with £401, about 10 of them were all under what i pay for my 182......i am interested in the fuel economy bit though, I imagine this has something to do with the gearing and weight? I'm going to check their site to see the claimed MPG figs (for what they are worth)!

alot of people say you are lucky to get 27 out of them, the gear box doesnt really help as the 6th gear is the same ratio as the 5th on a 1*2.

197s are insurance group 15 iirc, compaired to the 16 and 17 of the 1*2 sand cups. due to their higher crash rating 5 ncap stars opposed to 3-4 in the mk2

to be fair your 182 insurance seems quite high anyway, i pay 450 with protected no claims on a 04 182 with aftermarket seats, exhaust, coilovers, remap, trophy alloys, maxogen airfilter all declared, thats with a 250 excess and 6 years ncb, clean license

either way the r27 quote seems good :D

really who's that with - i am shopping around at the moment!! :) . I moved house recently, and the premium went up by around £80 (including admin) so i did used to be about 450-ish. Yours looks a very good premium with a good excess too.
I did all the comparision sites, specialist brokers etc and none could get anywhere near my current premium with Privilege for the 182. I will look to change over to esure if and when i get the 197 (hopefully within the month, depends how quick i sell the 182).
The most shocking were Post Office insurance (£2,600), AA (£2,000 odd) and a couple of others that wouldnt even insure it as at 28 i am too high risk!! .

I'll be paying less on the Cup than I was on the Trophy. The Trophy being Group 17 the 197 15. I've gone with Direct Line for the Cup as I'm due to renew on the 5th of March.

Yeah 197 Cup. They've been around £100 less than anyone else who quoted me. £538. That's with one fault claim, one none fault and 30 points. Covered for 16k miles a year with the car on the drive. Plus I'm 31.

I know this is going to sound boring but remember to factor in depreciation when working out if you'll be better off.

The insurance may be a couple of hundred cheaper over a year, but the R27 will lose more in value per month than the car you already have. Ok, so if it does lose a hundred or so in value per month it doesn't actually come out of your account, but when you come to sell you'll have been paying for that during the loan period and that's when it will hit you.

I see your point. My 182 04 with 40k is worth around 7-ish on a good day private, and about 6k PX. I only do about 10k miles a year, so i see it loosing around £1500 of over the next 12 months if i keep it.
I want to try and get an F1 (not many around second hand though) as they are rarer and therefore hopefully hold their value in the long term. In off to test drive a standard 197 in 32 minutes!
Cars for me ore one of those things i'll always loose out on, so i may as well do it in style and get something newer and nicer!

You lucky b******s. I've got 5yr no claims, one accident, no points, garaged, and I'm 27. I pay over £800. Birmingham sucks.

Don't forget . Location and what job you do can make a huge difference to your insurance . Comparing your highly modded car to another standard car in another part of the country isn't always being realistic .

i also got an extremly good insurance quote today.
Clio 172 (PH-QUICK) with no modifications. Quinn were originally saying £1853 so i phoned around and got some cheaper quotes on search sites such as confused.com as well as phoning around... in the end got it down to £1350.00 with Quinn direct after i got a quote of £1351.35 with Swinton!! not bad for a student :)
