Another Clio 172 Cup

Hi all.

Being on here and seeing everyone’s projects got me think I’d stick something up.

Been after a Clio 172 or 182 for a while and finally bit the bullet and hooked the trailer on the van. After a 10 hour round trip I’d got my Clio 172 Cup home.

To say it wasn’t ‘as advertised’ was an understatement but hey ho, nobody to blame but myself.

I was just going to change the alternator and just use it for weekend blasts but the more I looked at it the more I wasn’t happy with things.

There was oil everywhere which turned out to be an gearbox oil leak, power steering leak and I’m sure the engine wasn’t leaving itself out.
So I’ve taken the engine out to clean everything up. While I’m at it I’ll give the engine a strip and some love.

Great to see another cup getting some love. Too many being broken these days

Been a bit slack with the updates here.
I stripped and rebuilt the engine including all new gaskets, clean up, new stem seals, lapped the valves back in, new main shells, arp rod bolts and 197 cams timed to 8 degrees. Plus a load of other bits I replaced on the way. Oh new clutch too.
Got it back in the car and it’s starts ?
Runs a bit rubbish but I’m guessing that’s the cams without a decent map.
