Another Track/Toy Thread...

  Cam'd Ph2 172
Hi guys.

Been lurking around the forum for a few years now but only within the last 7 months actually purchased a Clio sport! Bought a 172 in pearl black completely standard, had one previous owner and a shed load of history, most of which was all from Renault dealers! A few scrapes and dents here and there but nothing to really put me off buying it. So a deal was done and i drove home in it the same day. When I was looking at buying a Clio I knew what I wanted to do... Track toy!
The first thing that I done was to take the rear seats out. It was free and was pretty easy to do... (haven't got any photos but I'm sure everyone one here knows what a Clio looks like without the rear seats in lol.
Next on the list was to get a decent set of coilovers so got in touch with Weeksy on here and purchased a set of GAZ coilovers from him. A few weeks later and they were here. Also took this opportunity to fit solid top mounts so got onto k-tec's website and purchased some from there.

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/130392586@N07/16328387805/" title="Untitled by adam.boxall, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8676/16328387805_e1e9702859.jpg" width="374" height="500" alt="Untitled"></a>
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/130392586@N07/15705954024/" title="Untitled by adam.boxall, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7580/15705954024_79872e9463.jpg" width="374" height="500" alt="Untitled"></a>
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/130392586@N07/16140814228/" title="Untitled by adam.boxall, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7563/16140814228_c9fc0c6fd7.jpg" width="374" height="500" alt="Untitled"></a>

So after this was done I purchased a k-tec recessed cat back and decat pipe. Unfortunately i haven't got any photos of this but like I said earlier I'm sure everyone knows what they look like!
Was driving the Clio as it was for a while I developed a knock when taking my foot off the throttle pedal - found out it was the dog bone mount so ordered a poly bush and got it changed over.
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/130392586@N07/16302435666/" title="Untitled by adam.boxall, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7559/16302435666_01df2556fd.jpg" width="374" height="500" alt="Untitled"></a>
And all was well!
So like mentioned earlier I wanted this to be a sort of track toy and for a bit of fun at the weekends so to make me feel more secure in the car I bought a Corbeau Clubman seat which is pretty comfortable and pretty cheap but it does the job, also bought a Sabelt 3 point harness. No pictures fitted.
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/130392586@N07/16019943500/" title="Untitled by adam.boxall, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8608/16019943500_4fddfc238e.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="Untitled"></a>
Car was driving great and was loving it until I went to pick a friend up - was sat outside his house noticed my temp gauge was getting increasingly hotter so quickly turned the car off popped the bonnet. AHH no coolant... Nursed the car home as it was only round the corner got it jacked up and found a crack/split in the bottom corner of my radiator - b****cks! So out it all came and a new one fitted.
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/130392586@N07/16021477267/" title="Untitled by adam.boxall, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8588/16021477267_582b1a4b50.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="Untitled"></a>

After this Goodwood Hot Hatch Breakfast Club was a couple of days away so cleaned the old girl up.

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/130392586@N07/16206476842/" title="Untitled by adam.boxall, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7472/16206476842_5c18ef78ea.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="Untitled"></a>

Left it like this until the start of this year when a set of OZ F1's popped up for sale on facebook and I had to have them. A price was arranged and off I went to South Wales to pick them up, tyres were a little worse for wear so got a set of federal rs-r's fitted and now their spot on!
Also saw for sale a half cage on here so went and picked it up in the van and took it straight to the engineers to have some spreader plates made up and then from there to the painters to have it painted.

Then set about fitting it...

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/130392586@N07/16142342357/" title="Untitled by adam.boxall, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7485/16142342357_52c31f49f3.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="Untitled"></a>
<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/130392586@N07/16326456531/" title="Untitled by adam.boxall, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7503/16326456531_909863d85b.jpg" width="375" height="500" alt="Untitled"></a>

And this is how its sat now.. changed a bit since I first bought it.

<a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/130392586@N07/16302289936/" title="Untitled by adam.boxall, on Flickr"><img src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7565/16302289936_0c1faf6f95.jpg" width="500" height="500" alt="Untitled"></a>

Booked into my first track day also on the 3rd March @ Brands Hatch which should be fun!

Oh almost forgot! For a bit more oomphh cars going into Dan @ SJM next week for cams, remap and belts! I really can't wait!

Anyway I hope I haven't bored to many people but I think I'm up to date now  I'll keep updating as bits are done!

Cheers
Adam

You don't hang about ;)

Nice. Get some copper grease on those coilover threads though if you haven't already. It's scary how fast they change colour especially this time of year.

Good work, im also in the same boat at the moment, things are going slightly slower though :) So much better having these as dedicated track car

I'm also ordering the same seat soon, looks really good for the price and isn't steel framed thankfully! Assume you fitted yours with an OMP subframe or such like?

Which cage is that? Looks decent.

I'm stripping/spraying the inside on mine on Friday weather permitting, not sure the paint will like the weather to much mind you :p

Thanks mate! Yeah I use it occasionally at weekends as well but I have a works van so use that as the daily.
Yes I would recommend these seats! So cheap as well which sometimes isn't the best thing but on these can't go wrong! Yep fitted with the OMP subframe although you'll need to get the spacers/rubber grommet thing off the original seats otherwise the seat will slightly lean into the centre of the car.
I'm not sure on the brand of the cage if I'm honest it just popped up in the 'for sale' section lol.
Hmm maybe a little cold for painting lol!

Odd question but I've never had axle stands on both sides before. How did you do it? Like I say its probably a basic question but meh lol

I hate jacking cars...I feel as though the in my head physics are telling me its going to fall off!

Jack it up, put axle stand under, let jack down and repeat on the other side.

Progress looks good mate, I'm tempted by one of them corbeau seats for my 106GTi

How are you finding the coilovers mate? Car looks great
Yeah coilovers are good for the money! Obviously there are better out there but these are still good having damping controls and camber adjustment as well makes it better for setting the car up.

As this man says really just make sure the car is safe before you get underneath.
Cannot fault the seat at all! And for the money it's definitely a winner!!

Cool. I just never thought it would be safe to have it on an axle stand on one side and then jacking it up on the other. To me it seems like iit would fall off the stand lol

Looks the same as the cage I have tbh.
What seat is that? How is it for height? How did you mount it

Hi mate. The seat is a corbeau clubman, for me personally its perfect for height - when I got it it came with side mounts and adjusted them so the seat is at the highest (yes I am short!) and there's quite a lot if adjustment available. Its mounted to an OMP subframe which bolts to the floor then the side mounts bolt to the subframe. You could mount a slider between the subframe and the side mount so that you can slide the seat back and forward but its only me that drives the csar so didn't bother.

I personally don't find the driving position bad.. But obviously everyone's different.

Update!

So got the car back from Dan at SJM today after having cams his cam package fitted along with a PMS aircon delete kit and a new power steering pump after the old items were obviously past their best!

The result is, well simply amazing. It has completely transformed the way the car drives and had me grinning from ear to ear all the way home. Cannot rate Dan's work enough!

Will get some pictures towards the end of the week after its been cleaned as its absolutely covered at the moment haha.

Update Time!

Right then guys been around a month since I've updated and a few bits have happened so thought I'd post.

As my track day was fast approaching I was in need of some new brakes so got straight onto George on here and got Brembo HC discs, Ferodo DS2500 pads, Goodridge hoses, Supergold fluid and a couple of washers and hub nuts for the rear. Came the next day which was great! (Didn't get any photos of these though).

Next up I got a wider throttle pedal from the group buy.

And some better washer jets because I find the standards worse than useless. So got these ones from a Citroen Xsara.

So fast forwarding a couple of weeks and Brands Hatch was here! So an early morning drive and a couple of cans of red bull, we arrived in one piece. Unfortunately it had rained the night before so the track was a little greasy on the sighting laps and first session but after this it dried up nicely and was able to push on and felt I was getting quicker throughout the day.

Here's a few photos...
