Any auto electricians out there please help!

Boot catch has been playing up terribly (popping open everytime I unlock the car) it's been happening since removing the item in the photo - which is a sort of sticky back plastic thing that was attached to the front face of the boot catch just hidden by the trim panel. It was poking out one day so i stupidly decided to pull it out!

Can anyone tell me what it is/does?

Common thing if you do a search. Wap a new switch in there.

Also do you know if its the switch mechanism itself or the button switch?

You will find its corroded aswell as wet so a new one is the only way to fix it 100%.

It's the actual rubber switch you need. If you take the old one apart, you will see the problem.

Taken it off and opened it up - as you said it's covered in green copper oxide slime! New one ordered
