I saw a post about engine mounts & how to cure knocking by undoing levering & re tightening.

Can't find it????

If you look at the top and dogbone mount and thing about it you can work it out without needed the post.

Edde, I have heard that you're a genius (and a helpful one at that) I however am a t**t and don't know what you're talking about but would also like to stop the knock under hard, first gear acceleration, could you explain the process a little more clearly please?

Loosen the bolt in the center of the top mount and pull the engine foward as far as the mount allows.

Tighten the top bolt 62NM from memory.

As for the dog bone best have a look you want to try and pull the engine away from the subframe.

In the top mount the centre bolt should be 44NM iirc, the others are 62NM Ive done the above on mine and has made a difference.

dave does this mean that in the bottem left piccy, F should be 44NM and G should all be 62NM?

do i take this off, pull the engine forward and retighten?

Yep F = 44NM
H, J and G are all 44NM.
I got mixed up with my earlier post.

Alsl you have to do is loosen F pull the engine forward and retigthen.

WHy are you taking it off you only need to loosen the bolt to pull the engine.
If you want to remove either part of the mount yep you'll need to support the engine.

hang on a second chaps!

if you loosen F and pull the engine forward, then retighten, it will do the grand total of nothing

what you want to do is loosen H and J, then pull the engine forward, these are the only bolts on that mount that have any adjustment, F has 0 adjustment

F?
H?
J?
44NM?
64NM?
Loosen F?
Don't loosen F?
Loosen H and J?

I've just done the job 5 minutes ago and despite the conflicting statements I can honestly say loosening H and J is the way to go.

2 minutes, all done.

Fred, Edde, thankyou, confusing though it was it was worth it!

The mount is on the drivers side of the engine, you cant miss it if you remove the plastic engine cover. Loosen H and J, undo them about 1 cm up pull the engine forward or get someone to hold it, pulling towards the front while you re-tighten them to 62nm.

Done. Managed to move the engine forward about 5mm or so.

Can't believe it, it's actually stopped the banging in hard 1st gear acceleration. I'm amazed

Thanks :D
