Any network Tech's Use VLSM in their networks ?

Car  Shed.
Right im 5 chapters away from vlsm, ive learned subnetting which is piss.

But does anyone here use vlsm in a working environment ? i can only think people have to use it on huage networks, surely normal subnetting will suffice even very large networks ?

Maybe im being short sighted and when i get to chapter 6 ill understand why we use vlsm but in the mean time could some one tell me.

I would but I learnt it 2 months ago and forgot already :S

Isn't it so you can subnet the subnet, splitting 1 subnet into more smaller ones? Good if your ISP only povides you with a certain range of ip's to work with.

The above might be total b****cks because I can't remember properly lol.

I think so yer, borrowing bits and what not, guess ill find out.

But i dont see why subnetting alone isnt enough with a regular/large network, i mean vlsm looks pretty hard lol, and i spent 11 solid hours trying to learn subnetting as i couldnt understand what the f**k the tutor was telling me. Taught myself it.

Wastage of addresses.

Helps keeps things tidy.

VLSM allows an organization to use more than one subnet mask within the same network address space.

Basicly subnetting a subnet. It can be used to maximize addressing efficiency.
