Any Running Issues On A 172 Running DeCat???

Basically Ive just put my name down on the 172 & 182 Decat group buy thread.

But wondered if anyone had run into any problems with running the car after putting a decat on??

Ive done a search but it came up pretty non-conclusive so a new thread it is

think it depends upon the car and what you're prepared to put up with but i'd list possible issues as: noise, will smell of unburnt fuel, insurance/MoT hassles, might illuminate the engine management warning lamp

If so did you notice much difference as the local exhaust guy said they weren't really worth it as the difference just isnt there.

Makes it louder and it seems to pick up quicker too... could just be a mental thing and maybe someone will give a more scientific explanation.

Depending on your car as well a few pops obviously.

Yeh mate, noticed quite a bit of difference, a bit more noisy but not too bad since mine is silenced. Picks up a lot quicker, revs alot more freely, seems to pull a lot better and get up to speed more quickly. Plus it helps to iron out the '5k kick', definetely worth it!

I did doubt it.

I think he wanted to put me off as whenever ive had work done in the past ive got them to run me over the work carried out so i can check it before paying - lol Customers rights if you ask me!

Will i notice much more noise with the standard system??

It suggests not putting decats on cars unless they're already running over 200bhp.

I think for £75 its worth a try!

Even if it doesnt up performance i can have fun with the pops and bangs - lol

i have a 172 running a decat with no issues just had to put cat abck on for MOT

Also notices some very good gains

Yeah i saw noticable gains with my de-cat. just seems to pull better thru the rev range and abit louder

Theres no question marks with a 172 application. Its 100% beneficial.

The 172 cat is restrictive, the 182 one less so, so the up shot is, 172 will gain the most where as say a 182 will gain but not quite as much due to the lesser cells

Ive had a magnex on my GTi6 and the quality of it was good.

172 decats are annoying to fit at home. Really annoying. 182 are easy peasy

Never had a decat myself but my dad had a decat on his 216 GTi a few years back and it run like a bag of poop, poor mpg, strong fuel smell, poor idle but it did give it that extra punch in performance.

Obviously we're talking Honda here so a totally different kettle of fish but just a heads up.

I want one just a bit expensive at the minute and an arse to fit if you dont have access to under your car.

Hopefully securing some space at a guy I know with a pit in his garage though

I'm not sure if it's just a placebo effect due to the increase noise and sporty feel, but mine definitely feels quicker and smoother through the revs compared to standard.

I like the smell of unburnt fuel

on my old 172 i fitted one with an ITG filter and afew rolling runs with philmots' old 172 remapped cup there was nothing in it at anyspeed.

so it made a difference
