Anyone drove a 172 MK2, Clio V6 MK1 & MK2?

I want to know how big the difference is???
I am sure V6 will win, but by how much?
I heard that V6 MK1 cannot really kick 172's butt but the V6 MK2 will do. Is that true?
Is the V6 MK2 really improved a lot?

  172cup/BMW 320 coupe
drove the mk 1 & 2 V6 and i got a 172 cup! the cup handles better than both the vees but the mk2 V6 is faster than the 172, the v6 mk1 i found there wasnt much difference with the 172 cup in speed until u got to 100mph+ where the vee pulls more! the V6mk 1 i found abit twichy on the corners when pushing it the mk2 V6 felt more surefooted!

if u want handleing and pure chuckability(dont no if thats a word?) go for the 172/cup but if u want the fun of a mid engine rear drive then the V6 mk2 is the best, the V6 mk1 is good but not much faster than 172 and i have heard of problems with the pannels coming loose cos there bonded on not screwed(just wot ive read/been told so not crusifying me if im wrong!).

Thanks! I know what to do when I meet my cousin's buyfriend's V6 MK1 next time. Well, I have just a 172 MK2 with decat.

I've driven all 3. I'd rather have the 172 Cup as it's such a good all rounder, but everyone just stops and stares, pointing at the V, especially as the one I borrowed was yellow. It's such a nice feeling driving one and having everyone look at you, kids with camera phones taking pics. It sounds amazing too. It has a sense of occasion about it, the performance of the V isn't what it's all about.

A cup will put up a good show with a mk1 and win but the mk2 has that extra something that separates it from anything else.Road prescence for one

I've driven all 3, owned both the vee's and also Mk1 172.

The Mk2 v6 is the best car out of the three you mention but you'll always have someone beg to differ, ultimately its all down to peoples opinions.

Don't forget the cost implications of owning a vee though, and i'm not just talking about the initial purchase price either!!!

All my vee's have been second / weekend cars, just for fun, I've loved / love them all, and still wouldn't swap my present vee for anything else currently available for 27k new today on the UK market.

The best thing to do is try and get some decent test drives in. Then you can make your own mind up.

Cheers, Steve.

Mk1 & Mk2 Vee will whip the cup in the bends, but only when you've learnt how to handle it. It's a very difficult car to master, and a novice will always be quicker in a Cup than a Vee.

The worst thing in Hong Kong is that - we have about 35 V6 MK1 and only 2 V6 MK2. I think all MK2 V6 are for collector which is extremely hard to see on the street.

We have no Renault dealer for a year and just got one recently. But the only car they have now are Scenic... Jesus!!!!! Well, we do have some Megene, but normal version. Wish some new Renault cars will arrive later this year. Avantime and Megene 225 is what I really like.

BTW, it is very hard to find a 1.4 Clio as 172 are more popular (but still rare). Pug 206GTI did very good selling in HK.

I own a cup and have driven the mk2 v6 but not the mk1.
IMO the V6 255 is sooo much better than the fwd cars...Its light years ahead in terms of fun. I do prefer rwd tho. Wouldnt bother with the mk1 v tho
