Anyone thinking of getting rid of 17s....

... all I can say is do it now!!

Took off my huge superleggeras today and replaced them with some (temporary) Phase 1 15" turbines.

Wow.

The car is so much more nimble, turns in sharper, moves off from a slow/standing start better, no tramlining (well minimal) - ok theres a tiny bit less grip when you nail the throttle but you can adjust for that!

Had to take it a bit easy scrubbing in new tyres but from brief playing down the lanes on the way home Im mighty impressed.. cant wait to cover the first couple hundred miles on the new Eagle F1s so I can really put it through its paces!

so for me...........who keeps telling myself to stick to my 15s.........im doing the proper thing for the driveability?! Cool, thanks for helping me in my battle against alloys buddy lol

Got any pics with the turbines. I saw that car when ben had it and would like to see it. Why are they temporary??

why do people think, the bigger the wheel, the better ?
I bought my 17s purely for looks

but why do you think the bigger the wheel, the better they look ?

  20VT Clio & 9-5 HOT

15s are loads better than 17s or 16s but 17s + mainly.

handling, and accelleration!

only prob is on 16vs only standard rims look good i reckon (ph1s ph2s and willy rims) aftermarket 15s usualy loook a tad small for some reason.

  172

I had 17s on my last car bought them for looks, after i got fed up of catching the arches and the state of our roads i put some 15s on and was suprised how much nicer the car drove and handled.

What is something special then?

Think i prefered it with the phase 2s, Cant make my mind up about the turbines. When i look at mine i sometimes love them and then dont, its weird

I think it looks good this second, not a keeper for me though - saying that Rockports valver looks absolutely wicked on turbines - like you say sometimes I love em, sometimes not so.

As for "something special" - just have to wait and see.. :)

  Clio 1.6 16v 2003

if i had a cup , 172 or 182 i wouldnt change the wheels

but its adynamique so i think it needs somethin more than 15s

Gone Im afraid Alex.. I am sad to see them go they did look the nuts.

Maybe buy a set of 17s for shows if Im feeling flush later in the year..

i repeat.....
but why do you think the bigger the wheel, the better they look ?
Because they fill the arches better and give the car a more aggressive stance and are more visually striking. Depends on the car though.

Clio Cup Racers run 15"s, thats good enough for me. I bought my 17" wheels for looks, although I must say I didnt notice any decrease in performance.

I now have some 15"s for trackdays :devilish:

yea I got 17s for styling purposes..cos I dont intend on taking my little 1.2 16v around tracks ... hehehe... if I had a better powered car maybe It just get nicer wheels the same size as ones they come with!

  williams 2 turbo

im probably getting rid of my 17s, think ill go for 19s instead. not to worried about ragging the nuts of the motor. been there, done that, just for looks now. and its turbod so dont make to much difference anyway!

As Riplash knows, I was the owner before last of his Valver. Heres a pic of it on the Phase2 Speedline Vega 15s. It was way, way quicker and handled so much better on these wheels than on the 16s. Dont be fooled into thinking that wide tyres add anything either - you need some give in them to make the most of the handling. I also think that the car looked best on these wheels (at the time) although I really like the Phase1 Turbine wheels.
