Anyone took out the centre box on standard 182 exhaust?

Hi,
My centre box pipe broke off so I repaired it a few months ago only to have it go again. I can't afford a new exhaust (however much I'd like one) so got a price of around £30 to weld a straight stainless pipe in its place. Anyone had this done before? Will it work and will it sound too loud?

I have one sat in the garage lol. Gave it to my brother to practice his welding and never got it fitted!

I had one. Not a great deal of difference tbh. Makes it a tiny bit more raspy, but nothing else.

Raspy I think I can live with as it's a million times better than now. It's blowing, rattling and generally sounding sh*te!

Yeah I think so. I was shocked last time we repaired it (read as my mate welded while I watched), there was only a small piece of metal holding the pipe together but it didn't sound bad. Got into the car today and my god it sounds horrible. Tinny, rattly, broken etc. horrible. The plus side is it might make it sound more like it shouldve done from the factory.
