Arch scrub and Calipers painted

  RS 200
Right, had a slow and steady day today, decided to give the arches a good clean, used some car wash solution and AG Engine and Machine Cleaner for this. Also in the plan was to prep the calipers and paint them, had some silver Hammerite smooth to do this. All can be seen below. Enjoy  .

1. The wheel off and the dirty arch and caliper exposed.

2. The wheel backs were surprisingly not too bad despite a little stuck on dust and some type of orange colour contamanent on the inside.

3. So I got cracking on cleaning the arches out.

4. Once the arches were clean, the calipers were prep'd with a wire brush, was only intending to paint the areas that were visible.

Time to admire the clio and the fresh caliper from a distance

5. The first coat of paint was then applied after the calipers had been cleaned and rinsed thouroughly.

6. While paint was drying, inbetween the coats I took the opputunity to give the alloys a polish with some AG SRP, and finished with a layer of Collinite wax.

Tomorrow I'm planning on doing the rear drums in smooth black, can anyone give me any pointers on some good rear jacking points or should I be ok to use sill seeing as theres no way near the weight like on the front??

Cheers

Cool, Ive just done my calipers black, arch clean is on the list! Your whole car looks very well cared for.

The sills are fine at the back mate

*edit - sorry from the 1st pic they look less concerning - certainly gives me an idea where to put my axle stands :)

i think u can do the back on the beam that goes across the back between the wheels? im sure someone else can be more helpful

Great work, certainly very advisable to clean the arches when painting callipers. I'd do the drums silver aswel though if I was you.

Very nice indeed! I need to clean under my arches and the backs of my alloys, maybe when a nice warm day comes along.

  No more clio's for me!
Looks good chris, i need to do mine, but just know my arches are hiding a magnitude of sins! :(

Your pic's have inspired me tho ;)

One of best posts in ages, like dannyboy172 it's inspired me to do the same
I like the idea of painting the visible part of the calipers without having to strip brakes down, but it doesnt look like a bodge job
the backs of my alloys are a disgrace - def sorting them out ASAP !
looks great

looks like you've done a good job there.

all this cleaning malarky tho gives me no motivation :rasp:

Cracking job mate, mine are needing redone soon.
Its whether to keep the silver or go gloss black with my new pro race 1.2s which should be in transit !

Thanks for all the great comments guys, especially liking rich172's :approve:.

Like I said, it was slow and steady. Started about 10:30 - 11:00 and it was about 5:30 when I eventually finished packing up. Had lunch in that time too though, so wasnt too bad for a clean of both front arches, clean and protect on both alloys, wire brush prep on calipers and 2 coats of paint on each. As well as taking pics whenever I could. Just sort of kept doing things though, while i was waiting for things to dry i'd do the other side or do something else, eg polishing the wheels while paint was drying, was going well, one thing after the other, when I had finished one thing the next part had dried enough or whatever to work on that.

Had been planning to do it for a few months now so sort of had a solid plan in my head of the steps that needed to be taken.

Martin_89, I have the black now, Hammerite smooth black, wasnt intending to do the drums tomorrow but sort of inspired my self today while I was doing the front, so dispatched mum to get black paint ready for tomorrow  , should be good as long a weather stays like it was today.

Hopefully be able to get some picks tomorrow of the rear drums done in black and some clean arches.

Thanks all

Chris

  182... again!
Inspiration indeed...had the paint for ages now to do the calipers but been waiting for better weather and the time! Corroded calipers spoil some great looking wheels. Think I'll take the pads out and clean/copper grease while I'm at it...thanks for the tips and motivation!!

Looks great Mr Lurk.

I'd love nice painted calipers and the wheels inside all cleaned. Must find a way to get my wheels off without the use of a sledge hammer.

Looks awesome, fancy doing mine!!! I would get the weights on the alloys changed to stick on ones, had mine done after a year and got a few marks where they came off, only wish I had had it done sooner. It really does make alloys look better.

The calipers are stanard OEM ones that are on a 2005 1.4 Dynamique. The logo that was on the calipers was TRW, which can be seen in the picture below on the bottom squarish part. Havent got a clue about the pads, never replaced them havent even looked at them.
