Are Sony HU’s really that bad

Ok so my wifes going to give me some money for a HU for Christmas (mainly cos of my moaning just recently about the factory hu) ...

My problem is that I want to keep my heads up display and stalk controlls, and I know (or I think) only Sony will let you do this, with the connects2 adapter (plus you dont have to take the dash appart) ...Ive never really heard anything good about sony though and I dont think they look great... but are they really that bad?? Im not looking for show winning SQ here.. but anything better than standard is a bonus.... I was thinking about a set of MB Quart speakers too DSE 213s... are these any good?

Sony is fine but many people think cos its sony and they are a "good" brand its a good stereo. Alpine do an adaptor but think u need to take the dash apart but i thought u did with the sony too. alpine leads only 10 pound or close too but thats only for stalk adopters not screen adapters. Id get alpine over sony and im sure most people will agree but there is nothing wrong with sony

Yeah i got a sony HU in mine. Fair enuff its not gonna win any ICE competitions but a bit like you i just wanted a bit better stereo an the use of my stalk. If i were to build a big install id stay clear of Sony in car stuff but if all you want is a better stereo i cant see a prob. I tend to listen to the engine more now than i did anyway!

Ive got a stalk adapter ready to fit to my MK2 172. but not managed to get home in daylight for the last few weeks. When i do fit it ill take picks an write instructions to post here or add to the DIY section on the homepage.(assumin its not already bin done??)

happy with mine - OK happy is maybe too strong a word - but it plays music, looks OK and was sh*t cheap, so it does what its asked to.

yeah sony are fine the only reason i changed my hu was cos the preout wasnt enough for my amp but other than that nothing else to moan about

ive got the CDX-CA900 and i love it.... nowt wrong with it and too be honest, you dont miss the display!!

Its impressed a few people anyway !!

I just wanted an mp3 cd player sony was best option at the time.... Its only through oem speakers anyway so it doesnt have to be a belter!

compared to their rivals in terms of reliability, sound quality and features, they dont come close

but if you want flashy lights, they are great

Not really into the flashy light thing... if possible I would like it as plain as possible, like Nakamichi or the Pioneer deh77mp, I just feel tied down to sony because I want to keep my display...

once the display is gone, you dont realise you had it, same with the steering wheel controls

get the CD45 or CD400 Nak unit, very stealthy, yet sound unreal

i wouldnt worry about the display, it only shows the track number/station anyway! and the clock will still work on it. the display on any HU will be better so i wouldnt worry mate. Ive got the active black mini disc unit and its great, sounds better than my old pioneer but that was a very basic 1400r. Also got it for a bargain, £180 instead of £400 off ebay. Autoleads make a lead that costs £30 to keep your stalk controls and it is a direct replacement for the standard one. The connects 2 box can be quite awkward to stuff behind the dash!

my sony head unit is what it said it was, and had more and powerfuller outputs than the compeition when i bought it a few years back. some arnt the best when compared to others, but if u get the right one u should be pleased

mine plays music-job done. like you say if you want to keep the display/controls etc and arent gonna be building big install why pay loads of money when you can just buy a cheaper crappier sony. ok it wont win you any prizes for being the best but itll get the job done.

You must be JOKING?! I simply cant live without steering controls! It feels so clumsy without them....

I totaly agree with Daz! Steering wheel controls are the muts nuts!
