Had another bit of solo practice on Laguna Seca at dinner...

  • Mazda MX5 - love it. Rev happy, chuckable, good brakes - nice all rounder.
  • Escort Cosworth - not bad - wallows like you would expect an older (and non-track car) to behave. Had fun keeping the boost on boil. Got it to four-wheel drift on a couple of corners.
  • Alpine EV thing - waft mobile. Felt easy to overwhelm the fronts. Got bored after a handful of laps.
  • BMW M2 Racing - felt good - easily above my current level of ability and therefore poor times. Nice and controllable for the most part.

Working my way through the others as and when. Still love the S2000 and its screaming, non-torque delivery - planting the throttle out of most corners in the dry without any concern that the arse-end wants to slip out.

For those interested, AC Evo is currently £18.49 on cdkeys too. A bit cheaper than Steam. 👇

@Darren S give me a lap time in the MX5 on Laguna Seca to see how far off I am please.

Anything more realistic than Forza I can't do very well at all and I'm not great at Forza either.

Will do. Most likely to be the weekend now, unless I sneak in a few laps with the MX5 later this evening.

I suspect that @andybond would throw down the gauntlet and set the leading time!

I'll make zero changes to the car either (not that you can do much at the minute!) - but at least the cars will be consistent between us all.

Would love it if you could pick your viewing preference and select that it applied to all cars. I play with the drivers hands or wheel, usually a couple of degrees raised up and one or two forward. Bit of a pain having to do that with every new car you drive.

I had the settings below for the assists.

Went on earlier, but didn't clock the times!

Lost it a couple of times on that double left-hander after the Corkscrew. Back-end being so light and turning at the same time.
I am not fast at all in the corkscrew. Either come in far too hot doing mad corrections or too slow and feel like I could get out and walk faster.

Managed to get into the 1.43s with a quick 10-lap race.

Span out early on when I overcooked a corner, but started making my was through the pack once more. Did OK until I got tapped out at the Corkscrew by an AI driver - shithouse! :p

Cracking time that, Andy.

Which bits to you find the most difficult?
I think I can find some time in the corkscrew.
Also if I get the exit from Rainey curve wrong it ends up in a poor lap
I am not 100% confident that I am fast in turn 11 which leads onto the start / finish straight. 3rd doesnt feel right and 2nd too high in the revs.

I think for me - the Andretti Hairpin at the end of the main straight is difficult in order not to out-brake yourself. Then there's the question of a low 3rd gear or high 2nd going through it.

I know I've got potential to make up time immediately after the corkscrew and totally agree - the Rainey Curve is another one of those where your gear selection feels difficult to pick. 3rd seems too slow and in 4th, you're tip-toeing the car like crazy and trying to stop it from running wide.

Dipped into the 1.42's at dinner.

The 'revelation' that I had and will work on, is using both the brake and accelerator on the section after the Corkscrew. It seems a little counter-intuitive to load up the front even more and make the rear even lighter, but I presume the covering of the brake helps to pull the rear down a little bit and not to make it as lairy through that section?

Logged on tonight to get an mx5 lap time but 90 minutes or so later I was doing licenses and never got round to a lap in the mx5.

Bit buggy and I can’t drive but getting the hang of it, not got any 3 stars yet but within a tenth on all the first lot. I’m just crap at it I think 🤣
