Aux belt and cambelt question

  Racing Blue 182
Probably been asked a million times, but didnt find the answer I wanted when searching.

Booked the car in at Queens Service Station in Leeds for Cambelt and Aux belt changing.

Price is £450 which seemed to be the best around.

Question is, they guy says they use a full cambelt kit, but with the Aux belt they only change the belt itself.

Is it ok to just change the aux belt or should I pay the extra £110 for the full kit?

  RB FF 182
Id get the full kit, I hear the tensioners go quite frequently.

I had mine done recently and it was obvious the tensioner had never been changed on teh aux belt, there was a huge chunk missing out of the roller bit and it pretty much fell to bits when they took it off!!

Very lucky escape. In my opinion its better off paying the extra now, than risking paying £1200 for a rebuild....

but where are you though? depends where you are and how much petrol cost etc. Need it doing 2nd or 3rd Feb

Defo go with both kits, not worth doing the job unless your gonna do it properly. I paid about £400 for both Kits fitted, unipart camblet kit, renault Aux belt kit.

Does that place actually know what they are doing? I personally wouldn't go anywhere but the traders on here.

make sure you take it to a specialist.mine needs doing in 2k .im also from leeds .have yet to work out which specialist to take it to.but the amount of garages that say they have the tools and infact donot are massive.if a normal garage fits the belt without the correct tools then it will be down on power or worse as we all know.dont take the risk mate.

Ive heard some good comments about queens service station, theres also rsmurray, both are renault specialist, if your really stuck theres always paul@rstuning

  Discounted 1*2 parts
always replace them as a kit, the bearings and tensioners can wear just as much as the belt itself. No point in just replacing the belt to find the tensioner siezes and chucks the belt off again

  Maybe a 172 Cup..
Queens Service Station or RS Murray in Leeds.
Birchdown about an hour from you.
Fred and Sideways Danny about hour and a 1/2.

Yeah birchdown ftw, can even borrow their van if needed to

Id rather save the £30 and just go to someone locally, and rsmurray will do the same job as birchdown would

RS Murray wanted about £580 though. Birchdown is £440 plus £30 fuel seems a good deal. How long does it take them? not exactly sure what I would do all day while they do it

As said though its cheaper by more than £30, cant comment about RS murray but birchdown service is excellent and they will lend you a car or a van to go out and about. Make it a day out, go to the zoo or something.
