Aux belt just snapped :(

  182 Trophy
Too make my ongoing bad mood a little worse, my aux belt just decided to let go.

Any idea what sort of money it's likely to end up costing me? Don't wanna be brewing over it until Monday.

Depends how unlucky you've been really, worst case scenario is it's hit the cambelt as it's snapped and you've got bent valves.

When you get a chance try and turn the engine over by hand, if it's locked solid it's going to be an expensive do unfortunately.

Sounds like a very lucky escape. £10 for a new belt plus fitting. You may as well do the dephaser at the same time as a precaution.

Isn't the dephaser done with cambelt, not aux? Think waterpump is done with aux?

yeah, im not sure what he's on about. It will cost a bit more than £10 as well as you should replace the tensioner and bearing.

I'm almost lost for words

Get a full Aux belt kit fitted (it will have failed for a reason, usually tensioner or idler related) £72 for the kit, hour, maybe hour and a half labour

That's not too sorry then, I wasn't sure if it was going to be a cambelt replace too.
Itll no doubt be going to mark fish as he's only 2 miles away so it'll be the easiest place to get the car too.

No, had it about 6months. The belts were done by Renault before we bought it, going to check the paperwork in the morning to double check when they were done. Might have a case with them, cos it now throws worry into whether the Cambelt is going to be a worry too.

I'd get it all checked; alternator, waterpump, PS and if all is good fit a new belt kit

I'll sit back and be patient then, keep getting the itch to go on a mad one and just order the lot and replace it all. If its not too specialist, I might just get a mobile guy to come to me to save me the hassle of trying to shift the car.

Right, got someone that knows the job to fit it, going to order a kit and just keep my fingers crossed it doesn't need a water pump.

Wheres the best place to order the kit from (price and speed).
i assume genuine Renault is the only way to go?

Right........
turns out the belt didn't snap. The long bolt that hold the alternator on had worked loose and came out, and the top bracket has snapped on the alternator.

On replacing the belt tensioner, the bolts were all finger tight too. So another top quality main dealer job.

Now just need to source an alternator.

My bolt worked loose yesterday, managed to catch it in time and put a longer bolt on and a nyloc nut on instead, strange thing to happen I thought

if this work was carried out only 6 months ago, renault should repair it for free as its there fault its fcuked up.

Off topic but have spotted you around Loughton mate (i think) if your number plate is the same, must be being a trophy because that's what i spotted! Car was looking good.

Hope your problems sorted soon.

  182 Trophy
Yeah that would be me. Cars not looking so good at the moment lol.

I'm not even going to attempt fighting with renault. As much as it hurts not to, I have so much going on i'll just pay the money for ease.

I've sourced an alternator at a sensible price, although the surcharge is extortionate. So now need to source a cheap 2nd hand unit to hand back to them on an exchange basis.
