Aux Belt Tightness

Hey all

Can anyone tell me how it's possible to make the aux belt too tight?? I've read in a few posts where people have complained of whirring noises and get responses saying the aux belt could be too tight. We're about to replace my aux belt and from what i can see the belt is self tensioning with the big tensioner spring so how can you make it less tight?

cup without a/c you have to manuelly tension the belt on ones with a/c its a auto tensioner

On a cup the Aux belt is adjusted by the small nut on the Alternator bracket.
