I'm after a proper TV/Audio speaker set up, as having to put up with the buzzing TV speakers is doing my head in. Is the below bundle a good buy?

http://www.bestbuy.co.uk/product/1000166009/onkyo-tx-nr509-av-receiver-plus-51-speaker-system.aspx

I will be connecting my xbox/ps3 and sky hd to it.

There are other options, for example...

Budget £350 max.

Cheers.

I have just bought the onkyo 5405 frOm richersounds and I love it, can't fault the system what so ever. It was £350 and worth every penny.

Didn't see the Onkyo in the first post.

The Best Buy one looks slightly better out of the two.

I had an onkyo for 10 month. Sold it and went for a Denon which to me sounds far better and is easier to setup.

Setting up the onkyo was always a bit hit and miss, go through the "audyssey setup" and it never came out with the same twice. And when it worked I was never happy with how it sounded. Always very bright and not alot of presence.

Went for the Denon and went through the "audyssey setup" and the difference was night and day. Great presence, dvds, games and music all sound awesome.

Speakers. KEF IQ 50 flootstanding front, KIF IQ60C centre and Antony Gallo A'Diva T rear

Appreciate the input, but I think denon & kef are well out of my price range. Not knocking the quality though a bit o/t but I had a kef set up in my car and the sq was brilliant.

Thanks, but that doesn't include speakers in my budget, and I've just googled the ones you spec'd above and that adds another several hundred quid onto it

Another one here for the Onkyo kit. Sure, there are better setups available, but I don't think you'll find better for your money.

I've got these, and they are great. Highly recommended everywhere.

As for the amp, I'd say Yamaha. Even their entry level stuff is brilliant. This amp combined with the speakers would set you back £430, so you pays your money, takes your chance etc. Plus, 4 HDMI inputs, and the port for the excellent Yamaha iPod dock.

FYI, I've got the speakers above and the amp below for nearly 4 years with no issues whatsoever. My bro bought the Onkyo system mentioned above twice, twice returned due to various faults. He gave up in the end and bought what I recommended above, no issues since.

My amp:

Best advice I can give u is find ur local specialist and chat to them. As soon as I mentioned the speakers I had the first thing that was said was Onkyo wouldn't suit the speakers, came from an Onkyo dealer!

I can't fault the denon, easy to setup and sound quality is alot better. I spent the same 1500 on my speakers and I wish I had spent more time listening to amps

i believe best buy are closing all uk stores. Worth thonking about for warranty reasons.

Doesnt matter its handled by a different company that do the warranties so will still be valid once they shut shop. Was on there website somewhere

I've had the entry level Onkyo TXS R 308 for nearly a year, and cant fault it. Ive got 2 floorstanders at the front, and satellite centre and rear's. No sub at the mo yet but I dont really need one tbh.

The 309 is out now though! Its ~£200 but with your budget you could get the higher spec model ;)

Ive not compared it to any others but as my first one I'm very happy with it.

Ok, thought I'd update this thread a bit. I upped my budget a tad and got a Denon 1912 receiver and a set of Tannoy SFX 5.1 speakers. But as this is a present I cannot use it until xmas day.

Thank you for the advice though peeps :)

That's a fine choice. I have the SFX 5.1 with the official stands and an old Denon 1803. I found nothing wrong with the sub it has but when my brother upgraded his setup I inherited a much better one for free:).
You won't be disappointed with it. They've been around a few years now and I still don't think you can get a better small speaker package as good for the money. They sound fantastic on my amp so should be better on yours.

I'd recommend measuring out your lengths and ordering your self some QED Micro Bi wire that you can split in half (works out cheaper than single). It's a worthy upgrade and a good size for the 5 satellite's.
I've been thinking of upgrading my amp to one with network connectivity before long so would be intresting to hear how you get on with it.
