Back to Ford ownership

Well, decided I had had enough of this - Passat Highline:

Passat2.gif

It needed 4 new tyres and if I were to keep it, I would have serviced it. That coupled with not 'needing' a big car at the moment. I'm not spending hours a day in a car, so fancied going back to Ford.

Decided to get one of these:

Ford Focus Edge 3dr, 1.6 Petrol - One owner since new, 45,500, serviced every 9K, at pretty much the same date every year and just had new discs, pads and 4 new tyres at 45K.

Not the fastest car in the world, but it's actually cool being in a car which doesn't have a ton of gadgets and is basically a sofa and handles well too.

Some of my other cars from the last few years:

Mondeo Ghia X

MK5 Fiesta Zetec S

And finally, my Clio 1.2 RL from a few years ago now:

Cheers for looking.

I would have, but it would be a bit too small to be comfy all the time tbh.

And it is getting harder and harder to find good ones, mileage doesn't bother me, but the way I see some of them driven does, lol.

Pah, man up, I do Reading to Preston and back in mine every two weeks on the stiffest coilovers in the world and it's fine...;)

Just kidding mate, looks a good buy. Really like the look of your old ZS too. I know what you mean about finding a good'un now, I searched forever for mine.

Lol, I still do 100 miles p/day, so it's a fair old drive daily.

I would love another ZS at some point. Or a FRP, which I really want, but again is becoming difficult to get hold of good ones.

I sold a silver ZS earlier on this year, 1 lady owner from new with 32k on a W plate, was minter than mint. I ve had an imperial one in the past too and that was on 50k, neither had been thrashed (until i got them!) I know what you mean though, proper uncomfy!

Passats are lovely, but dull as shit to drive.

Good work on the Fuckus, although i'm not sure a 3dr is a good idea. The doors are massive! Gone in an NCP yet??

I only had a quick look, I did 10K in the last one and loved it, but just didn't fancy doing it again.

Fcuking tell me about it.

I thought they were a bit large, then parked next to someone at work, fcuking hell they are massive, lol.

Cheers for the comments. Not the most exciting car in the world, but will hopefully do 50K without any issues which is what I need at the minute. Touch wood anyway.

Get some of the mod'd washer jets and service regularly and a touch of luck should do it nicely.

Nice place to sit doing those miles...

It is nice, and I'm enjoying being in a car which isn't so tech. Pain in the @rse not having a 6 disc changer though, lol.

The biggest mistake I made was getting rid of my Mondeo, I bloody loved that car, such a nice place to be and handled very well (for a barge).

Oh, and as Daniel said, my god the Passat is a dull car to drive. I know it's not meant to be hair rasing or anything, and it does eat up the mototrway well, but getting out I just wanted to commit suicide, it was soul destroyingly dull. Literally never had an entertaining or exciting experience, and it has done nothing but put me off the bigger VAGS. I'd rather just pay less and get a Mondeo again TBH.

I like the mk1 Focus, more than the mk2 infact. Looks like a tidy example you have found as well. Enjoy!

passat is dull as dishwater, but a huge sofa to drive. shame you dingied it, but focus has a great chassis to use, even with the 1,6 lump

I used to have a 2.4 V6 A6 Avant and once wound up it was good banter. Uber barge, but quite entertaining slotting it down a b-road. Really wasn't meant to be driven like that...bit like when you thrash a hire car I guess.

Yet to drive anything that was better round town/motorway. A lot of modern cars (new focus for example) being heavy are quite firmly sprung, the Audi was nice and soft which suited the car....could have handled better but you can't have it all.

Mk1 Focus looks like a great run around, friend just got one and it's a nice place to sit.

whey!

looks very tidy

love my focus, although basic they really are good cars

How do you find the doors on yours? I still can't believe how massive tehy are, lol.

Defo needed the Mark 6.5 ZS fiesta.

Worth the extra cash.

Although that focus brings me back to the Estate i drove, focus estate 1.8 TDCI was mint.

They're just holding their value a bit too well for me at the minute, I would have loved one, but they are £2.5K more than I paid for this, which is a lot of money to make back in fuel.

+1 great little cars.

I know, I have wanted one since they came out.

The Passat was good when I was spending 6 hours a day in the car, but once I wasn't spending that much time in it, I wanted something a bit less boring.

Thanks for all the comments.

Went out for a drive round the peaks this afternoon, so took a couple of pics.

Excuse the n00b plate removal, I only have paint on my lap top, lol.

Some nice photos there.

Where abouts is that in the peak district dude?

Thanks - It's just off the A628. Turn left (if coming from Manchester) onto the A6024, then drive nice and quickly.

They are a little bit dated, but not as bad as some cars have dated tbh.

Id have got a 2L ESP, Panther Black. Bang on cars.

How is the 2L - Thirsty?

Thanks all.
