Battery Light on Clio 16v!

  German Barge
My mates battery light on his clio 16v was flickering for a while, on and off, almost to suggest a lose connection...

anyway, was out with him on friday night and it stayed on constantly? We drove another 16 miles, but no fading lights, no sign of a flat battery...

got home, and checked the battery - has a light on the top which is "green" for charged, and it was green... and suggestions?

p.s. his is a N reg clio 1.8 16V

check all connections on the alternator mate, even thu its still charged at the moment. then get a multimeter, measure your battery with the engine off, then with the engine on, should read higher with the engine on if its charging correctly.

he had a look, but couldn't see any wires hanging off? will go round and have a better look..

He had the alternator changed when the light was flickering on and off before, but it continued to flicker. Just its gone from flickering to being constantly on now, so i spose in a sense its more likely to be a lose connection...

Same happened on my Williams 3.

Flickered for a couple of days then stayed on constantly.

Battery lasted a week before it gave up on the motorway..

New alternator was needed.

looks like he better get on GSF car parts then lol ;)

for my own interest too, how much of a b**ch is an alternator to fit, as i had a look at mine and it seems there is a tight space under the bonnet where it may fit through... or is is a light out job?

Its a bit of a ball ache if you've got big hands.
When we did it on my 1.4 RT i ended up with my arm down the side of the engine and came out with scratches and all sorts..and my hands/arms are tiny.

It's a swine!

Bonnet off, grill off, bumper off, wheel off, headlight out - then you can get to it!
