Battery or Alternator ??

HELP.....! After a visit from the RAC, we were told the Starter Motor was shot, so today i fitted a new Starter. Having reconnected everything, tried to turn the engine but just clicks again, lights all on the dashboard. So, connected the Clio to my Merc with jump leads and the Clio fired up straight away. Kept the Clio running for 20 mins, then turned off, tried to re-start and back to the clicking again. All lights including battery lights are on, but just not turning over. Could this be battery or alternator or something else ? Any help or advice would be appreciated, thanx folks

I had a similar experience the other day. Battery and stop light came on and it ended up being a corroided wire to the alternator, aparantly quite common. Initially i would have said battery for you though.

sounds like the battery. do you have any lights on the dash when its running?

If you have access to a multimeter test the alternator charging rate while it's running first.
