battery relocation.

Car  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..
following MarkM but having had quotes between £3-400 i decided to have a go myself, the install is not yet finished and may not be pleasing to the eye to some. i have posted to try & show it is not difficult for those who would like to do it. it may seem extreme for some but rather a battery than a sub in my boot thanks. it took 2 of us 5hrs & we are reasonably handy with tools. i still have to get a 45 bend to get the filter into the corner, then i will be using a cup brake duct (in place of foglight) with a proper air feed aiming at the filter, then i will partially heatsheild the battery area. a race battery will go in at a l8r date. cable throttle will also be done shortly. many pics to follow!! there are others if anybody wants them. basically it seems you could take out the washer bottle & drill through the bulkhead there, but as i already had a sub & amp previously (in boot) there where cables run for them, i used that hole instead. i ran 25mm cable along the side of the car, modified my fuse box to get the existing wires through then attached them all together (pics paint a thousand words i hope). fixed the battery box to the boot floor, earthed the batt to just behind the seat. had to take off the wipers, various bits of trim, my alarm & the piece of metal that the circuit box is fitted to (for drilling).

Looks great. I'm relocating mine in the footwell behind the passenger seat as thats the lowest place on the car and will offset the weight of me driving a bit.

Matt

nice work! looks tidy enough to me.

To be honest I wish I had attempted it myself 300£ is alot of money.

Just need to get the filter moved and make a heat shield.

thanks, ya at first i thought it would be a right pain b4 the quotes (they did include battery box & parts) then i thought about it & it wasnt that bad, got my bat box on evilbay & sprayed it up, electrical suppliers for the circuit box & mounting strap from camberly auto factors & i already had the cable & crimps, so spent about £30. its a rough guide hopefully it might save somebody else some £, had to be the boot clowo as i have passengers, are you large? ;). Mark what are you using for heatshield? i was thinking some tin (easy to shape) or that silver corregated stuff that is above my exhaust? hope to get the brake duct fitted next week for the air feed...cmon Fred!

lol i like the way you used earth cable.

is it ok at starting as you must get a fair bit of volt drop when pulling starting current

ah buckets..not for me i like my comforts! no voltage problems, as you can see in the pics i tested everything with the meter.

I did this, safer too. Needed to buy a red top racing battery though.

ya in the bin clowo, coolant level is a touch low but content is fine, pic makes it look dirty.

as for safe, i think its as safe in the boot as it was in the engine bay, its fixed solid. of course it would prob be better behind the seat but not good for my passengers, i guess im not that extreme, i need compromise. as already said i will be reducing its size at some point as it still takes up a fair bit of boot space, but i dont carry much.

fitted the brake duct today for the caf, its not pretty but it functions very well. the fixings are temporary (will be rivets), the filter still has to be moved (waiting on a 45 bend) & the caf cut down. i will be filling any gaps around the duct & it will be resprayed. 'pick up' is much improved. Andrew & Fred..il get pics to you when its complete..nice ducting btw.
