Been on the rolling road....

  182 Cup & DCi 172
After owning the car for around 5-6 weeks I thought it was time for a rolling road session to see where I was at with the car.

The car came with the V6 airbox complete with Pipercross filter and a Janspeed catback exhaust.

I have added a 182 4-2-1 manifold along with a Ktec decat link pipe and moved the induction kit to aid the route into the throttle body

I nearly always use Motoscope in Northallerton as the cooling is fantastic and results always seem to be very accurate.

On the rolling road with Rich about to start the session;

And the results - 189bhp and 157Ib/ft;

Loads still to do as target is 200-250bhp but unsure of what I want - forced induction or ITB's

I dont think its that much out mind haha - standard Focus RS's on these rollers run around 290-305bhp and they book at 301bhp

More interested in getting a starting point then when I add mods I can take it here again and compare

189 on a pretty much stock engine! Certainly reading high, wonder what it would of produced if you told him it was standard my guess is 172? Go back tell him you have matched the inlets and gas flowed the head. Bet you miraculously get 195.

Honestly pal, I had the same mods on my old 172 Cup (No aircon) plus matched inlets and an RSTuner map on a corker of an engine and it only made 181bhp / 167lb/ft torque. Realistically with a strong engine that will be making between 175-180bhp, for a staring point having all them modifications wont give you a true reflection if/when you go forced induction/ITB's.

Not trying to cause offence obviously, just some rolling roads read too high and thats mainly down to the person using them.

My 172 made 151 at the wheels at the RR day I went to with the West Mids lot,
taking into account a 15% or so loss through the drive train,
my flywheel power only worked out 173bhp, or is my maths sh*t?

Mine's got, V6 box, matched inlets, Piper exhaust, Fastchip remap.

How have they worked out the engine power on yours?

My ph1 running 182 manifold, decat and yozza stealth with itg panel filter did 179bhp gotta agree with others that yours is reading kinda high at 189 I'm afraid

It may well be reading high but as said above it was mainly to get a before run for when the cams go in along with matched inlets (the inlets may already be matched after chatting to previous owner) and a map.

Not sure on the engine power calculation as never bothered asking even though used these rollers around 8 times haha.

Rumour has it there may be a chance to get on a Dyno Dynamics RR in a fortnight so might take the the Clio along and get a before/after run with the map

Focus RS's only make 275.

You lost 48bhp through a clio gearbox?

Did you accidentally fill it with readymix concrete instead of gearbox oil or are the rollers just literally printing completely random numbers?

As said above it was to get a base printout before adding anything else to boost power. Then can see what has been added/lost regradless of original figure.

All being well can put a better graph up in a fortnight from a Dyno Dynamics rolling road.

Also - book power for a Focus RS mk2 is 301bhp and 212bhp for the mk1 Focus RS. Most make around 290-295 from the numerous power runs have seen with them.

I know a few lads who have been to Motorscope and their results are very optimistic. Get it down to RStuning.

I'm closer to Motorscope and would not use them.

This was my old car and I got it rolling roaded with a 197 at the same time and the 197 got 192 and this Clio got 185

Says who?

Says me.

I watched 5 focus RS's hit a rolling road. Most made 275bhp with one making 310bhp with a mountune tuning pack. Only cars that made good figures was one or two focus st's and a fiesta.

I put mine on the rollers in andover with 2.25 cat back and pipercross panel and got 159.7at the wheels :) does seem a lil high at 189 :/

As long as the owners happy with it then what's the problem.

Id never post rr figures on here tbh as the common theme seems to be if it's not done at rs tuning it's wrong.
