id been eyeing up some ledas for a while and finally went through with buying them. hopefully these should help improve the car on track.
bilsteins and ledas

IMG_3617_zps13e46a75.jpg

One of the bearings didnt look to good so had it replaced.
IMG_3672_zps5cd43135.jpg

I decided more weight needed to go so out came the dash heater matrix and lots of loom.
IMG_3713_zpsb79204d7.jpg

IMG_3714_zps3dcbdd23.jpg

IMG_3712_zpsbca4ae26.jpg

i picked up some s2 steels with fresh powder coat caps and bolts for a bargain 80 quid i may stick some tyres on and use them for road use and sell the turinis or wait till the a048s are dead and use them as the track wheel. unsure atm tho.
IMG_3724_zps50083b99.jpg

a couple of the car now. seems the ledas have added camber.
IMG_3716_zps84af0adb.jpg

IMG_3715_zps734f4925.jpg

to fit the ledas the track rod ends needed to be swapped from either side. i guessed the tracking and it turned out for the second time in my life i got it spot on and no adjustments where needed.

im looking at booking mallory next friday and blyton the week after if anyone was thinking of going.

Probably about time i did a update, things have happened that ive forgot about but ive mostly been using it.

The last time i updated this i was looking at booking mallory, in the end i went stuck all my kit in the rallye and went. had a blast the car was awesome all day long. i did start feeling i needed a diff. other than that it was spot on.

IMG_3932_zps6419f88a.jpg

ill upload the vid of mallory later.

I knew at some point i was going to have to buy a trailer i couldn't do this every time i had a track day. luckily i found a bargain trailer and went to stick a deposit on it before anyone else could snatch it away.
IMG_3740_zpseef12cb9.jpg

IMG_3741_zpsca78b1ae.jpg

luckily i have just about enough room to keep it at home.
IMG_3765_zpsfed9d856.jpg

I needed a tow car so i had to sell the clio, gutted i loved that car. found a mondeo in ghia spec years mot 2 owners and 91k for £980 bargain! but boring.
IMG_3896_zps831077ba.jpg

Id noticed the mintex pads i had have worn wonky and they never performed well at all, so i replaced them with carbon lorraine rc6 pads and theyre incredible.

With having a trailer and the tow car i was asked to do blyton with a few old mates so got that booked and went for a drive.
The pads were awesome but boiled the fluid within 15 mins, back to the pits and i ripped the air feed and fog light blanks out in a effort to get some cold air to the brakes.
It did the trick and the brakes where fine for the rest of the day.
New fluid will be in order for the future.
the morning session went well apart from boiling the fluid, when it came to the afternoon i had gearbox troubles, selecting gears became hard work. everything was checked over and the only thing we could see it could be was the box it self. a new box with a quaife has been sourced so should be picking that up next weekend.
the vid from blyton, ive not included any of the afternoon as i was only able to use 3rd and 4th

update time. ive always got little ideas running around in my head with the car. ideas that might be daft or ones that may actually work.
one was a bumper chop, id seen it done before and thought why the hell not. i gave the bumper a trim and it didnt seem to bad.
IMG_3908_zpsfb05c346.jpg

Then i thought lets try it a little more extreme, might look a little daft but the idea is to reduce drag, i know ill never create any real down force with a diffuser but i may give it a go making one to improve the look.
IMG_3971_zps40e82c28.jpg

Now the front end previously looked like this,
IMG_3960_zpsb72c9e88.jpg

The smaller oil cooler had been fine but id started to get a leak from a fitting (probably just needed tightening up) so i replaced it with a new cooler, 13 row this time.
356CBBB1-1922-4500-9B7A-E18B6748DE7E_zpsk8rvp8js.jpg

Coupled with a slimline fan hopefully for better cooling and also its lighter
2923C0C2-F5F5-4D11-93B8-1A58569EC8AC_zpshs0686c5.jpg

Whilst i was at it i gave the slam panel more of a trim, if you cant tell im now on a mission to same as much weight as possible.

After
IMG_3965_zps14823122.jpg

IMG_3964_zps08668823.jpg

whilst at blyton the box went or so i thought, so i managed to find a vtr box with a quaife which was much needed. whipped it off in 48 minutes, not bad going i didnt think. and whilst it was off i decided to check the clutch. good job i did....
B8216C3B-61BC-443E-A7B4-EC43BE72794A_zpsppg6kyxp.jpg

feck luckily i have a spare.

The flywheel didnt look the best so whipped it off nipped to Constella and Rob advised a skim and whilst i was there asked about a little lightening and balancing.
81C439E2-8D99-41D1-93EE-C70997D1AD9D_zps0awn1l03.jpg

Looks like the flywheel bolts took a battering
672E5854-30CC-40AC-81FD-CE94D3352BF8_zpsrhszseou.jpg

I should have the flywheel back next week and ill probably have it built back up over the weekend.

Whilst the lower mount was off i stuck in the smaller nylon bush i didnt do it previously to save some time on the build. it only took 5 mins.
279D9914-FC7A-453F-9ABA-C734B2B8111E_zpsgzf7fldt.jpg

Made a few little purchases also. some bumper mounts to save undoing the two 10mm bolts so itll be a 2 second job to remove the bumper.

And some gearbox oil

Ill have some more updates soon enough.

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
Bit of a update, a car i had previously had my eye on for the engine came up for sale again and this time i had to have it. i only wanted the engine, it isnt too special but spot on for what i need.
The engine had previously been sorted with a new head gasket, individual jenveys, jenvey filter, injectors, 708s and a emerald ecu. good for 160bhp and some rather nice noises.

On the Sunday i collected the car, had a rather scary moment on the m25 where a ramp decided to leave the trailer and skid along the inside lane at 60mph. thankfully no one hurt and easily retrieved. thinking what could of happened was very scary.

2A7EFF74-964F-49E0-9F35-350695503609_zps08iajwjv.jpg

Id arrived home at 4pm and by 9 the engine was out and the old one out the rallye was put in, sunday morning came and the car was pieced back together.
a few pics taken and up for sale Sunday night. by Tuesday it had sold for £1600 meaning the engine and a few other goodies had cost me £800 all in. bargain!

765B7257-C5DD-4A70-8DA8-D61FC8524554_zpstmrasozn.jpg

Onto the Rallye, the car was ready for the engine to be dropped in but firstly i wanted to check a few things over.
first thing i noticed was the incredibly poor inlet manifold gasket. shocking!

39672CED-C218-422D-AF23-4DC3BC8B3940_zps0jrgziul.jpg

EC0D764E-CB92-4785-8504-AB689D042EFB_zpsbjpkf6x0.jpg

I replaced it, i wonder how much power that would of sapped?

Next i got Rob at Constella to knock me up a sump baffle kit, i thought as it was easy to get to now with the manifold off and engine on a crane i might as well of.

IMG_4194_zps62bcd499.jpg

A5AB2AC7-7454-407D-8029-ECBB225720C9_zpsxlv3qvzg.jpg

The manifold stud's and nuts where all replaced. the only ones where a bit rusty.

FF9F9583-F34E-4581-8405-57BDE0DE6C44_zpsll6qbetp.jpg

Next i decided the loom needed looking at, when the conversion was done they just snipped the wires they didn't need, it was a little untidy so i stripped the loom right back.
i found 3 lambda sensors, two in the manifold not plugged in and one tapped up and plugged into the loom. weird.
just some of the unused wires.
83888608-B7ED-421F-B982-C49370833497_zpsuqs27yhy.jpg

I managed to keep hold of the newer radiator from the gti and its silicone hoses. much nicer than the old tattered ones i previously had. i also bought a heater matrix bypass hose off ebay, again much better than the home made jobby i previously had.

5ed0893f-59ee-4b0f-b269-afcabceb9ef0_zps506824d3.jpg

By the end of today i had the loom loosely connected just to check it would fire up with all the wires id removed. i want to mount it in the car so will look at what to do with that.

Was it you who txt me about it? It was a loverly car and felt solid when driving. Would of made a great track car.

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
I've got a mate with a quicksilver... Full respray buckets harnesses weld in cage carbon roof real tidy car just needs a engine with some go. He will want more than I asked for mine but then by the time you added cage buckets etc you'll of got to the price of what this is worth anyway.

Would have to be ready to go, or nearly. As much as I'd like to think is get my hands dirty I can't be assed, lol.

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
back with another update. i got the back box mounted to how i wanted it, i had planned on using some flexi pipe to join the center section and back box but its not worked too good at all, and looks utter toss. so ill need to get a small peice made up to connect the two.

IMG_4360_zps7530dfed.jpg

i managed to sort the loom after two attempts, i was running it a different route to how it was previously built so took some time.
ive mounted the ecu inside the car for a couple reasons, to avoid damage that may occur in the engine bay and to neated the bay up. i do like the ecu and fuseboxless engine bays.
there is a few things id like to do in the future. a custom loom, no doubt theres alot of things that can be removed and neatened up.

and a couple of poor ones of the car.
IMG_4431_zps6ee9962b.jpg

IMG_4440_zpseba26985.jpg

ive not gone into a massive amount of detail, theres been alot of little bits and bobs going on to get it to this stage.

after my first drive it felt nice and quick but the temp kept rising it was from not being able to bleed it properly with the bypass hose. i was a little worried it may have been due to the water not flowing through the rad and taking the easiest way around via the bypass hose but checking the header tank it would of been needing a good top up.
any tips on bleeding the system properly with the bypass hose?

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
A few little updates..

I found some new wheels up for sale locally with a048s so went and picked them up so i had a couple sets of wheels. look a little better imo. im still undecided if ill stay with 14s cheap used 13s and 15s are very tempting.
IMG_4917_zps5fdabd6f.jpg

And sadly the cars tax was up so i took it for its last drive before it became sorn.
the cars just fantastic with the bodies and diff.
(steels on the rear because they had more tread)
IMG_4943_zpsdbe2a15c.jpg

ive had some of tommys steering arms for about a month and finally got around to fitting them.
IMG_5008_zps29916997.jpg

IMG_5009_zpscdbfde2e.jpg

IMG_5011_zpsd54ef544.jpg

IMG_5012_zps5ddc7456.jpg

Last weekend i got bored and decided to get handy with a grinder.
IMG_5027_zps9dc31d92.jpg

this left it a little flexible and still to heavy so a drunken ebay session left me with a single skin fiberglass bonnet from spoox ordered. much lighter but still a little flixible.
IMG_5084_zps522e2ab2.jpg

IMG_5083_zps18a3eba0.jpg

i also picked up a 180 degree fuel line fitting and some new teflon braided hose to replace whats currently on the car. (bulkhead to fuel rail)
and more aero catches for the fiberglass boot i also ordered these along with polcarbs that are currently being made for me should see the car a few kg lighter.

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
Back with another update, a few days of fitting new bits and painting bits has left the car looking pretty good imo.

I had my polycarb window kit turn up from templar motorsport. Its a decent kit and pretty cool having the black border, certainly makes fitting it neater.
IMG_5152_zpsfb4ce96b.jpg

Id fitted the new fuel line and 180 degree fitting, its much better than previous.
IMG_5160_zps2bf5ef58.jpg

I got the boot through the post, it wasnt the best quality but thats not a problem. All that matters is its nice and light. 5kg if i remember correctly.
i fitted the polycarb window and the aero catches and made some tabs up.
IMG_5231_zps6bfd069e.jpg

IMG_5232_zpsc496d315.jpg

The panel gaps where interesting lol
IMG_5191_zps0ee8a785.jpg

IMG_5193_zps2c85a41c.jpg

I got the front windows in and gutted the doors, saved a nice bit of weight here.
IMG_5235_zps60e1378c.jpg

IMG_5249_zpsd5d23740.jpg

IMG_5250_zps119923fd.jpg

I just need to make some kind of door latch.
Next i gutted the front lights so basically its just the lense and a black trim that bolts up to the body. i gave them a lick of paint and its reacted leaving the finish poor. Im unsure if ill keep them black i may go white.
IMG_5248_zps12f81fa2.jpg

IMG_5247_zps36a5c8b7.jpg

IMG_5246_zpsfcd3ff3e.jpg

The other day i fitted my new steering arms and this meant it needed tracking so i ordered a track ace kit for future use. it should pay for itself soon enough.
I set it up and its slightly out
IMG_5244_zps517a029f.jpg

You can see its toeing in quite abit.

Things have really got interesting... some marmite things happening! Looks cool though, not a massive fan of the rear bumper or holes in the wings but love the rest.

Where did you buy the boot from? A lot of stuff above is on my list for winter, I have already started collecting parts and building the new engine but going to use it a bit more before I pull it all apart again.

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
the rear bumper isnt done yet, i agree it looks abit daft atm along with the holes in the wing but if it aids the car in going quicker then its ok with me lol.

the boot was off ebay. both the boot and bonnet are one offs. but there is a company making them on ebay.

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
A few recent updates.

Firstly i painted the lights, the black was just to see how it looked and i wasn't keen so went with bianca white. a little better imo.

IMG_5349_zps6585fff4.jpg

And a better pic of how ive chopped them up, i could of done a neater job.
6B232201-9C23-4E2B-A4FD-3884142D40F5_zpszoeyslmg.jpg

Ive had a few ideas of what i want to do with the exterior and its looks/aero bits etc and mocked up a splitter/airdamn.

I liked the look and after speaking to a mate about his and how i needed it to be i had it planned out.

The car now having tommys steering arms needed the wheel pointing in the right direction.

With that all done it drove great. i cant wait for Donington now.

Unfortunately my jack died. id had mine for about 9 years and its been spot on so choosing a replacement was easy enough.
D4C5B415-B890-48AE-8CF5-7A7520169858_zpsyjy0gbrv.jpg

With my plan for the splitter made up i started on making the first bit up. now the splitter needs to be made removable so i can get it on my trailer so i need to do some thinking before making it up. here is what ive made so far.

C8E20980-6209-45BE-B8D1-E70025C14064_zpsyi33vio1.jpg

With me having a single skin fiberglass bonnet now and it needing to be completely removed when needing access to the engine bay i needed a solution to the washer jets. i came up with this.
IMG_5562_zps00df286a.jpg

I gave the rockers a lick of hammerite, the colour is better but the finish is shocking lol. ive been waiting for the satchell rocker covers for ages, they need to hurry up lol
IMG_5563_zpsde7e9805.jpg

And finally i needed a way to open the door and came up with this.
IMG_5559_zps3c63e7bc.jpg

  Rb182cup+s2 rallye
Its been a while since ive updated this, not too much has happened i got the car to a point of being ready for a track day at Donington so it was just a matter of waiting for the day.
a couple of bits i got done before Donington was jp4 covers, i got them cheap and replaced them for the god awful standard hammerite painted covers.
10639591_10152797391815719_3628758130830081921_n_zpsfbbd6830.jpg

and the holes in the wings needed to go, but i dodnt want to just replace them, i believe the idea is right so went for the idea of spacing the wings out. abit of cutting welding and some filler later i had a gap.
IMG_6031_zps67ecd5c2.jpg

and you can see the space in the shots of the car from the pfc indoor expo. i was the only rallye register member to take a car. a shame as i was hoping to have a nosey around a few cars.
a couple images borrowed from other people but most are mine.

ended up with some pixie boots as ybracing had some decent savings to be had.
IMG_6092_zpsac538702.jpg

Then it was a case of waiting a week for the track day, excited wasnt the word, it had been 6 months since blyton and all the work done since has lead to this.
on the siting lap it was evident something needed to happen with the bonnet it was very unstable and just flapped about even at 50-60mph
once the bonnet was sorted i went out for some sessions the car felt great and i just picked the pace up throughout the day. it felt awesome the diff felt great and the noise was pretty special. i did end up with a stonking headache tho.
pace wise the car felt handy when i had picked the pace up i was only over taken once from what i remember and that was a seriously quick escort cosworth.
some really handy looking cars help me up quite abit which shocked me i was never really pushing the car massively from what you can see in the vid but it still went well.
i was saying to a mate mines a relatively usual spec engine wise etc that ive just kinda thrown together so id love to have a pop in something thats been properly developed.
heres a few pics and a vid.

I did oulton at the weekend what a cracking track, the conditions where slippy to say the least tho. ive never been on a track thats been so slippy it made things interesting. id love to go back when its dry for some proper laps.

The day didnt go without faults tho, when i put the wets on with the rallye steels the brake fluid boiled just as it did at blyton. luckily theres a shop at the circuit so i was able to buy some decent stuff and get the brakes re bled. they felt awesome after.

The steering arms kept coming loose ive found them to be abit of a nightmare tbh tightening them up is hard work. think they need some loctite on them

other than that the bonnet reinforcement worked and the car felt quick.

Heres some pics and a couple of vids.
