Bent sill repair?

The tyre place managed to bend both sills back to about a 45 degree angle, never mind that they scratched both front alloys aswell!!!!. The manager said he is going to have somebody look at it on monday and get them repaired if need be. So, is this a specialist job, what will actually get done? I would have imagined that it is not as simple a job as getting a big hammer to them?

If a sill is bent, then if you take it to a garage more than likely they will bash them out to be fair.

Seen it many times.

Big hammer and a lot of patience to get it straight.

However if they are paying for it then get some quotes.

Well when you come to sell up, whose going to want a car with bent sills, or believe that the cars not been crashed damaged.

By sill, I mean jacking point. They are the same thing, right?

na different the sill is the bit above, but they all bend, its normal, hammer and a dolly, whack em straight job done

get a big adjustable spanner or two on them and lever them straight,

less damage than a mallet (please dont use a hammer)

and they will be even along the length

my sills are bent, clio sills are made from chewing gum

Any idea on costs and how long a repair would take? I was not going to bother originally but now I am getting annoyed with the garage!

seriously, get under there and just bend them back. and never use them to jack the car up again.

Been talked about a million times before on Paul just here use the chassis rail. Block of wood, rubber or some cloths between the trolley jack so not to damage the underseal.

^ yeah thats what i did / do with mine! rear is better as you actually have a rear axel! front i still dont like!

I was fine using the chassis rails as described, was more reluctant to jack on the rear beam tbh.

If you have a decent jack the rear will come up with the front anyway so just do it a side at a time and axle stand the front and rear at the same time.

In regards to sills, when I was swapping exhausts over, I wondered what it would sound like with no scilencers at all. Proceeded to start the car up, forgetting that it was in gear! Knocked forwards, off the wooden blocks, and the sills landed on the forks. Didn't seem to do any damage though, was quite impressed.

my sill was bent where i went off a kerb and smashed the f**k out of it. just been to my dads garage this afternoon and hammered it straight with a copper mallet. good as new.

as for jacking up on the front i use the same place as the pic shows in that thread you said.

My front jacking points are fudged as well. I wouldn't let the tyre place use them the other week. I showed them how to jack it up on the chasis rail!!
