Best engine mods for 172 cup?

  172 cup
I have just got my 172 cup and looking to tune the engine
ready for the track, I was thinking of starting with matched inlets,
a 182 or stainless manifold, decat and then having it remapped.
The car already has a ktech stealth and itg panel filter, any advise on
best mods and where to get it done would be great

Cheers matt

Wana keep it under 1k but cheaper the better lol
looking to get around 190-200bhp. Is that possible without
cams or itb?

not really tbh.. also depends how mechanically able you are.

inlets matched, decat and rs tuner may be your best bet. Or keep an eye out for a used itb kit on the cheap.

do you have any chassis mods ? ie suspension + brakes

Yer not to bad, if I can't my bro is pretty handy
have brembo discs and pads all round, was thinking
of getting coilovers but the standard set up feels really good
is it worth it? Wot kinda gains would you expect from your suggested mods

cheers

A 172 engine is very hard to tune cheaply as its a very highly tuned engine as standard

A 182/stainless manifold will give u f**k all bhp

A decat and rs tuner you will be lucky to get 5-7bhp

Personally just spend you money elsewhere, coilovers and better front seats

I've just had the cambelt replaced on mine and auxiliary belts and replaced the dephaser pulley as that was shot. Fitted K Tec engine mountings and Powerflex dogbone bush as well as an engine damper. Since the cambelt has been done the engine feels much better. I think the worn dephaser pulley was knocking the timing out slightly. While the cambelt was being done I had the engine mountings done and fitted braided brake lines with DOT 5.1 fluid. The tuning is standard . I've fitted a green cotton air filter and retained the standard airbox as its quite large and gets a good cold air feed. I've fitted Ferodo DS2500 pads all round with Brembo high carbon front discs and Pagid rear discs. Toyo R1-R tyres and a rear strut brace on track days. Thats all it needs. The engine pulls brilliantly even after 118,000 miles. I can't see the point in doing anything else to it,as any further additions will be getting expensive. In my opinion if you want to see big power increases the only way is to go for throttle bodies and a bespoke ecu and play with different cams etc. That all costs silly money and as already stated the 2 Litre Renaultsport engine is highly tuned as standard.

tbh i think you would be better off getting it handling like a go kart/on rails rather than engien tuning s said before the likes of itbs etc i dont think are worth it for the money, just get good tyres, brakes, rear arb etc etc and your see a huge difference in cornering speeds.

In all honesty mate you would be better off spending the money on brakes, some new original shocks/sportline springs, new bushes and mounts and finally some new tyres then if theres any change enjoy it on a track ;)

cheers for all the tips, will probs go in the direction of brakes and suspension first then,
maybe some matched inlets and rs tuner for throttle response and leave it at that.

there's a thread on here that outlines the gains you can get from nothing more than a cheap cone filter and a bucket.

true story, have a search
