Best Exhaust Setup For Mk2 172

  Turbo'd MX-5 MK4

Im getting fed up of having my 172 standard now, and am also fed up of the standard Reno exhaust system, you know, the one with the dodgy rattles, clicks and bangs when cooling down etc, and the one that just basically gives an unhealthy sound to the car. So I want to go Stainless (as it were). Whats the best setup? I have seen a few of you fellas with them, I am thinking of going for the (kind of quiet) K-Tec twin circular one. How much is that fitted? and does that go anywhere near the lambda sensors? or is that CAT? is this the best setup? or should i replace the CAT as well? And finally, if I fit this, do I need to worry about fuelling and getting the car setup properly, and is it best if I go for the exhaust to think about a chip, or IK at the same time?

Cheers in advance,

Gaz

K-Tec

I dont think you need to worry about the fueling with an exhaust. I think its the IKs that affect it.

>>>>>>>>>>>GO 4 THE MAGNEX 6B4>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

must admit lees magnex did look and sound very nice:D, mikes supersprint is definately form over function (not very pretty) but ive been told the fit is awesome and having heard it it sounds like a rally car lol

Mike from Hull area came down to the Hull Clio meet on Sunday, and he has a twin pipe Janspeed, which sounds BEAUTIFUL. Theres no crackle and pop either, just an aggressive, yet not too loud purr. Its like the purr of a big-cat, that says, "I may sound nice, but I am going to kill you in about 5 seconds."

He said that he used to have a K-tec exhaust on his old 1.2, and it crackled and popped all the time...

I am certainly thinking about a Janspeed for my Cup (if and when it arrives)

One question tho how do these exhausts affect insurance?

Depends on who youre with and what you tell them. I told Tesco I had fitted a stainless steel exhaust that made a nice noise - had a laugh on the phone with the guy too - he knew exactly what was going on. No increase in premium, and the mod is now listed on my insurance schedule.

Mine didnt cost any more on the insurance either. I just told them I had a Magnex cat back system, and they made a note on the policy.

Im with Norwich Union, through the AA Neil. But then with what I pay I think it would be a bit unfair for them to take more off me

Heres a quick clip of my Magnex the day it was fitted. Sorry its so dark, but I did it late evening!! Youll get the idea though. http://www.leemather.plus.com/images/Newclio/magnex.aviMagnex.avi

I paid £332.00 from Demon Tweeks fully fitted. That was with the 10% Cliosport discount.

If you wants pops & bangs get a Supersprint like dogmaul says. Get earplugs for you and all in your neighbourhood too :D My Magnex was £337 fitted, Demon tweeks. You can get them cheaper but theres nothing like quality fitting.

Ha fittings not a problem one of my mates is an exhaust monkey.

On my last car we make a "Custom" system for it. Involved going 2 the skip pulling out a load of old exhausts, cutting and welding them into one long pipe(no silencers) and then butched a 10year old peco on the end.

Didnt sound fantastic (PECO=CRAP) but my GOD was it loud :D and popped all the time
