best road to increased Williams power

when the civic gets sold ill be freeing up some money to start chucking at the Willy and itd be nice to get some advice from people whove "been there, done that".

so whats the best way to squeeze power out of the old beast?

my initial thoughts after discussion with the guys at torsion tuning are 285 cams, pulleys, light head work. (exhaust, de-cat and filter already purchased)

whats your thoughts?

i would say headwork and cams, 285 duration would be quite a lot though. they would have to be made from billet which is a lot more than just getting your standard one reground. best to speak to Ben R about headwork as he offers alot for the money he charges. Also speak to ANDY AT gdi about the fitting and stuff as he offers a great job at a really good price.

Paul

yeah sort out exhaust n panel filter/enclosed first then go for headwork and cams/pulleys then look at somesort of chip ie unichip

as benr is alluding to, horsepower costs, how much can u afford! ps i know it is normally speed costs, but that would have sounded dim! ps, i was gonna say the best road is the a64, but didnt think it would go down very well!

budget can be wolked toward ;)

ideally, id like 200 break naturally aspirated but im never gonna get that without throttle bodies and thats going to far for the near future!

175-180 should be good, usable power should it not??

yeah would have thought so, once i get rid of my saxo im getting mine sorted looking for 180bhp roughly not after anything more then that tbh :)

same boat then huh!

not sure about you but im really starting to think i should of sold one before buying the other! havent really pushed that hard but i cant shift the civic!

on the note of power though, when i picked the williams up my friend drove the civic back and they seemed very similar in a straight line (although differences in gear ratios really showed!) and the civic is 169.7bhp so 180 in a willy with the less wieght should be good fun!!!

Currently a new inlet manifold design is in development and hopefulyl should be out this summer after trials.

The new design will be far more efficient than the std manifold and should allow close to if not over 200bhp due to the runner design. It will be an option that is just below throttle bodies but will allow you to retain the std ECU and throttle body, so the additional costs associated with throttle bodies will not be incured.

If anybody is willing to wait, it should be an awesome peice of kit.

now thats interesting, very tempted with that suggestion!

suppose i went for the cam, pullys and minor headwork in the near future would these compliment or hinder the addition of a performance inlet?

i was looking at spoon ones for the civic before i went all poncy on it and they seemed to add loads of power for what they are!!

Very interested Ben! when you have more info pm me mate! Have you moved to Andys workshop yet?

Paul

Im moving in July.

The manifold will complement all those mods very well. It will compliment anything form a std engine to one with headwork and manifold matching, cams, exhaust, and especially the SMT6.

When the info is ready ill inform everybody.

Opinions now?

I was going to just get them poweder coated in crinkle effect black, but im supposing some of you will want body colour matching, silver, white etc etc?

I think ill leave it as an optional extra.

Yep sorry mate, bit tired....

Yeah stainless steel - if thats poss?

Other than that, id be happy with it painted silver.

lol, yes it will mate.

The se of high rpm with high VE%ages at those rpms is simply down toflow capacity, and it will be more than sufficient.

coooooool :) my engine is screaming for 8k power! lol
8K power!!! More like ur engine will be screaming at 8K mate - ouch!

Ahh wot u changed ur post....not as funny now :(

Dont worry Adam, my engine will be remaining an 1800 to keep it old school, unless im really tempted by another 2ltr idea i have which should mean 8K+ isnt a problem.

Ben my engine should be coming together and put in in about three months! you want a demo car! also you got any idea on cost?

Paul

  300bhp MR2 Turbo

Ben - with this inlet be the same fot both Williams and normal 1800 engines?

What sorta difference you reckon it will make to a very lightly modded engine - IE I only got exhaust and filter, and would it need chipping to get optimum performance?

Matt.

Paul, dont need a demo car as such since i have a 16V of my own, but i would like some vehicles to work with the first batch for reviews and ont he road testing.

Matt, the manifold will be the same for the willy and valver yes, and it will compliment a std engine yes.

cool! i will be up for that ben! so with my willy engine your headwork, cams and pullys and smt6 should i hit 200bhp?

also do you have any idea at all on the cost of your manifold?

Paul

No ideas on costs yes.

200bhp will totally depend on the profile of the cams, new low impedance injectors, detailed headwork. Its all in the details and i dont want to say yes it will right now.

The one real benefit of this manifold over TBs is the far easier control of inlet air temp.

Ill keep everybody informed, its still early days.....but i am expecting alot from it.

Me to Ben! keep us up to date. im sure i will pop down to Andys at some point when you have mooved down here and chat to you then.

it would make life easyier if i had sold it before lol but my saxo isnt ready to be sold , needs bumper/grill etc sorting

tbh 180bhp is all i want for now, and its roughly what i can afford at tops !!!

180bhp in a lighter williams will be very fast:devilish:
