Best Screenwash

This time of year? Plain old distilled water.

Winter, Halfords stuff mixed 50/50 with water.

Reading the comments about acetone. Think that will be good for getting rid of the last remnants of Rain-X on my screen?

I just use it because I figure it is purer and so probably does a better job lol. I get it free from work too, so doesnt make no difference to me using it.

Acetone should shift Rain-X no problem. It's a bloody strong solvent, which is why you don't want it on your skin or paintwork!

Never thought about using distilled water, we have plenty of that kicking around at work. New recipe time!

acetone = nail polish remover. Cheap as chips. Glass polishing is very hard work. Don't even bother attempting unless you have a machine polisher to hand. Dual action probably isn't good enough either and you need a very heavy duty polish like menzerna power gloss or G3. jewlers rouge is supposed to work ok to. tread carefully though.

I am not polishing as such, just want something to clean the window of whats left of rain-x. When it breaks down it causes all sorts of smearing and blurring in rain at night, with reflections from car headlights. Want rid of it lol.

Not quite right. Nail polish remover contains acetone, but in a low concentration, so it doesn't soak through the skin and kill you. It also contains conditioners and the like to keep nails silky smooth!

Pure acetone can be bought reasonably cheaply, I think.

true, but not sure if you can buy it pure over the counter. Nail polish isn't far off and will probably work just as well.

I did have a link somewhere about where to buy pure acetone from. A lot of the VVOC boys use it as a fuel additive. I'll see if I can find it.

Not bad price wise, if you're using it as a fuel additive. 1 litre would last for ages!

6 quid for 2.5 litres would clean your windscreen a fair few times.

I used to use cheap stuff from Tesco, then i looked at the paintwork around the windscreen washer nozzles. It had clearly been damaged over time.

Now i use whatever BMW will sell me over the counter.

My washer jets leak like fook so i dont use anything decent, just ends up all over the front of my car :(

normaly i use the halfords apple screenwash i wanted to get some lemon next but ive not been able to get either :(

so i thought i have a look into autoglyms

Safe smear-free vision, Smoother wiper action, Antifreeze to -45c

Many motorists would agree that all screenwashes are not the same after experiencing a badly smeared windscreen caused by road grime or insects which refuse to budge however much you try to wash them away. Yet some screenwashes are little more than coloured water and make exaggerated claims that cannot be substantiated.

Autoglym believes that a reliable, effective screenwash is essential to vehicle safety and Autoglym “All Season” Quick Clear Screenwash provides a number of significant performance advantages. It inhibits smearing of insect remains and clears contaminants rapidly, plus a high dilution rate increases economy. Use throughout the year at recommended dilution rates for safe, smear-free driving. and claims to be safe on paint and trim
