BG 182

So after months of scrolling through ebay for sale ads I finally bit the bullet and purchased a BG 182. Having owned my 1.2 and making it somewhat into a sport replica over the past year I'm glad to finally own a real sport! I will be keeping my 1.2 until January when my insurance renewal comes round so for now this will be my little project.

The car was advertised on ebay with a 99p start with no reserve and free mainland delivery. Ending at 3:40pm on a Tuesday led me to putting a cheeky bid in and winning it fairly cheaply! Having not seen the car before it was a risk, but one i'm glad I took.

It's a BG 182 with 120k miles, lots of history, KTR Induction, Polybushed dogbone, KTR engine mounts/gearbox mount, toyosports catback exhaust, decat, polybushed dogbone mount and best of all, in-built satnav! It's a little bit dated, but looks awesome and having 1 of only 10 in this colour in the UK with it installed makes it even better! It's a car I hope to keep for a long time so this factory sat nav can only add to the value.

A couple of bad parts of the car... There's a small scuff on the front bumper and the bonnet has a bubbling edge and a few dints where someone has pressed too hard when shutting it. Easy fixes really!

Anyway, a few pictures from the advert...

Having trawled through the history it's clearly been looked after during its life, with evidence of belts being done in around 4 years ago IIRC. There is a receipt from Paul Temperton at renparts for dephaser pully and aux belt from 2014 but unfortunately no history in regards to them being replaced! I managed to find details from a PO and added them on facebook. He sent me more pictures from his ownership and told me how when he had the car it had receipts for belts being done in 2014 however I dont have this now!

First thing to go were the horrible stickers on the windscreen, the "modified cruise scene" and the rear renaultsport sticker. I'm still in two minds about the clio cup ones on the rear quarters but they will probably go when I get some RS-182 stickers made up for the skirts.

Although the scuff is more visible now, people aren't drawn to it as much!

Much better.

Yesterday I gave the car it's first clean and polish (Nothing fancy, looking to buy some king of gloss/ black hole sometime soon).

First task was to give my seatbelts a bit of a clean as they were dire.

A washing tablet, fairy liquid and a scrubbing brush got us here. (About the only thing demon shine is good for... holding belts off the ground!)

They need pressure washing or some vanish ideally but they'll do for now.
Next job was cleaning up the boot carpet as it had some stains..

I also bought some fresh plates and they came today! You just have to go for 520 x 85 and the service from proplates was incredible. Ordered Monday came Wednesday! Only £21 delivered for both front and rear.

IMO new plates should always be the first thing done as they just transform a car! Hate seeing modified cars with dirty old number plates as it just ruins them.

As the car runs satnav I took out the radio to see whether I could run a connects 2 system for auxillary as they're linked and a new headunit would stop the satnav from working so i'm led to believe.

A yellow and blue connector are removed in this photo (Yellow sat nav, blue cd changer) so I dont think there is a way to use connects to unfortunately. Unless I splice into the cabling?

20161005_120353_zpswlu2zjav.jpg

Moving on, I also bought some new xenon LED sidelights. Fitting was a ballache with the KTR but got there in he end.

@dann2707 also popped round to drop off some rear mats and alcantara a pillar and spotted this...

wtf.

20161005_150141_zpsgj6ou4fv.jpg

Not too bad but will be on my list to sort.

Have a few things to come really! Going to order a new brake switch as my ABS, Traction control and SERV light are on and the one fitted feels pretty fucked after Dan showed me it wobbling. If that doesn't rectify the issue i'll be ordering new ABS sensors as it just had new abs rings fitted so could also be down to this... Hopefully not! Can I just clean the original sensors?

Looking to clean up the engine bay and respray the inlet manifold, new bolt dressing kit, new floormats etc. Will update the thread as I go on!

Glad to finally own a 182 and look forward to getting to some meets.

Good work so far, bet you can't wait to get it insured and drive it.

Might be the pics but there's seems to be quite a bit of positive camber on the front wheels which is quite strange. As said, could just be the bits though.

Can't say i've noticed! Will have a look tomorrow. Definitely needs spacers 20mm front, 10mm rear. Will do it when i get the funds. Can afford to go slowly with me not driving it until january. You're right, I really can't wait to drive it! Given it a little bit of one on the alley behind our house, but nothing proper!

Looking good, BG is the best obviously as all the recent newbs seem to be BG! It's looking a lot better already. What did you end up paying for it if you don't mind me asking? I reckon you may have got a bargain.
The only other thing you need to do is get to some Yorkshire meets. [emoji106]

I paid £1200 and didn't have to shell out anything for getting the car back to mine which was a bonus! Car wasn't advertised with all the mods either which made it even cheaper.
Think I got quite a bargain yeah.

Absolute bargain that ! Really really tidy car and quite rare to have satnav even if it is a gimmick. The bonnet dent can be tricky to fix, its inaccessible for a dent man unless you dremel or drill a few holes under neath as you will see but well worth doing.

Haha cheers. There's some rust on the leading edge of the bonnet too so will probably look for a minter! Going to eventually get the 2013 cd for the satnav for £20 for at least some updated maps. Although it may already have it in who knows! Just want to drive it to be honest.
Ordered a sunstrip and side skirt decals just now

I need to check but I believe that my car has the cup pack suspension. If this is the case I think the new abs rings the PO had fitted are incorrect for the car.
They look thinner? And could be the cause of my abs light.

As my car didn't come with the cigarette lighter pushdown I decided to do something a little different and remove the whole thing.
I have to keep the original head unit to run the satnav so will be getting a connects 2 and running an auxilary/usb for my ipod. Rather than just having the wires trailing down I bought a flush dashboard connector, sanded out the hole where the lighter had been and fitted it here...

Pretty happy with it and looks oem! Havnt decided yet whether to have it with or without the lid as it sits so flush without it but is more obvious.
I am also stuck between leading both of the cables to the connects 2, or using the wiring from the cigarette lighter to add a permanent feed to the usb for charging phones etc. Was such an easy thing to add and will be easy to go back to factory if I want to.

I like that. Where did you get the usb/jack port from? eBay? What would I search for? Couldn't find one on there......

Bought a G3 claymitt after recommendations from Dan. Made life a hell of a lot easier and quicker than using a clay bar! Only issue is getting it into smaller areas such as on the front bumper, but this isn't really a major problem and does the large panels just fine.

Also got some silvervisions and fitted these, improve the look no end. Glad to be rid of the fried egg look, although it's still a little visible at the front.
After claying i fitted some new side skirt stickers, and removed all traces of the ones that were on it originally.

You got a link to the connects2? I had an old one but ended up getting rid when apple brought out the lightning adapter. Missing the look of the factory head unit.

A few updates.
Got a connects2 system installed and all the functions of the satnav still work. Result! I don't think I am going to continue with the AUX/USB flush fit as I havn't been able to get it working to allow me to continue using the stalk controls. I might have another go at a later date or just hardwire in a 2 slot USB flush fit for solely charging purposes. For the meantime I will refit the cigarette lighter.
20161026_125310.jpg

Also purchased an aluminium footrest which just tidies it up nicely. Got some new mats on order from RPD due anyday now as I have a cut passenger one on the drivers side.
20161029_115337.jpg

Another addition is a sunstrip which to be honest I am a little undecided on! I removed the trim to allow all the edges to be hidden which makes it look 100% better than my last attempt on my 1.2. Opinions? I know they're usually a mix of emotions at the best of times but I'll await my own verdict when I'm driving the car.

Frustratingly I went out to my car this morning, and it seems water has got underneath the sunstrip. It basically came unstuck on one side, so i've trimmed it down further and re-carded it to remove all bubbles. Will see if it holds! There's loads of areas underneath where light is coming through, almost like the vinyl itself is a weird texture on the sticky side. I'm still unsure on it anyway so it might be removed regardless.
Hard to photograph, but you get the idea.

Anyway, Got my new mats from Paul @renaultpartsdirect aswell as my service kit, and got them fitted. Car needed a good vacuum first but looks so much better now inside.

Not done a lot recently to be honest!
I bought some spare door pillar trims off @ashley_t and retrimmed them tonight in some suedette as to match my a pillars when I get round to fitting both of them. Got some pictures but will take some more tomorrow once fitted.
I also bought a flush fit dual usb port to go where the cigarette lighter goes after having no success in wiring up my connects 2 with the aux/usb mount I bought to retain the steering wheel controls. Happy to sell to someone on here for the price of postage if anyone wants it. Be perfect for anyone wanting to reroute their aux cable, I just wanted OEM controls. Wired this up anyway off my cigarette lighter and it looks great. Get pics tomorrow.
Mainly been finishing my university deadlines and fixing my 1.2 which has developed a misfire but will hopefully have some updates soon.

Fitted my door trims, and I'm a little unsure...
As they're not genuine alcantara the colour is a fair bit darker than the door cards. Doesn't look too bad when on a headlining away from other alcantara, but upclose i'm not sure it looks quite right?

Thoughts?
