Bird Lime

  Titanium 182

Hi, Just wiped the car over to remove some seagull crap (fresh today) and my paintwork is buggered. You can actually feel the lack of coating where the lime has eaten it away.

Surely the paint should have been up to more than 8 hours of crap cover? any idea what to do now? its right on the roof and visible from every angle (apx 1.5" wide)

Titanium 182

Cheers

i couldnt get it off I tried everything.

now carry water and a rag in the car and keep it waxed up.

last summer i thought the same had happened to my 182. but next afternoon car had been out in hot sun all day the mark had gone away on its own.

dont know why.

well scratch x is made to remove marks/scratches, the autoglym you talk about is just a polish

try the scratch and work it untillth mark goes, can take over 10 applications

Ill give that a good try then polish it over the weekend.

Is polish and wax the same thing? if not do you polish then wax? wax on wax off....

Neil

I would imagine 3-4 applications of scratch x and you wont see it any more

BTW get a few coats of wax on your car and the bird lime would have taken longer to etch through. It must have been a really sloppy one lol!

PS a polish improves paint lustre but doesnt protect whereas a wax protects. Most halfords waxes or polishes are actually a combination of both.

Hi All

Its gone !!!

Took it back to renault and they simply used t-cut (nervous).

Spent all today washing, polishing and waxing using a range of the 14,000 Meguiars stuff I brought after you lot recommended it. sh*t its good!, always been an AutoGlym guy before but now its Megs all the way.

Anyone know if you can add the wax to each wash just like Mer?

Also brought lots of weird coloured foam pads (yes Im the sort that buys everything in sight), what the hell do I use them for? are different colours for different products?

Cheers

I must admit Im not a fan of Autoglym anymore especially tehre polishes and waxes, for me its megs all the way nmow, although I stil use a lot of non paint ag products if that makes sense! Glass cleaner, vinyl treatments etc

Post pics of your foam pads and Ill tell you what there for!

had mine done foc from the place that sprayed my car a couple of years ago. the bloke there used some kind of very fine wet sandpaper stuff and then polished it with some stuff. he said itd be good as new after a couple more polishes, also mentioned giving it a good wax etc. still good to this day.

I have the same car/colour as you.

I feel for you mate, weve got a starling nest in the eves of the house and my car gets shat on every day of the week.

Ive actually been out this evening to wash it, and when i came out after getting an old sponge to do the wheels, it had be shat on again.

I used Turtlewax "wax it wet" to get a quick protective layer on the car. Spray on when wet, buff up and let it dry. Quickest way of doing it. The sh*t that was deposited on it yesterday never etched it the way yours has, so might be worth a shot?

Well bugger me, I have had this happen to me today, literally about 3 inches wide, it looks like a filying cow crapped on my car!! Now I have a huge mark where it has eaten in to the paintwork , and its black so you can really see. Just tried one application of t-cut and it seems to have done nothing!

Is scratch-x better than t-cut would you say?

Also, what is the best thing to use to apply it, I just used a bit of lint free cloth but is there anything better?

i used a microfibre cloth to work in scratch x and then buffed off with clean part - worked a treat on the leave imprints left on from the wkend.... i had same problem with bird poo as everyone else and i tried t-cut and it did nothing... seems a couple of coats of polish over the last few weeks has sorted it though... ill check at next wash and if not the sratch x will be coming out!
