Black graphics issue on PC - inc. pic.

Calling all PC techies - any idea what could be causing the blackness in the pic attached? On some levels of COD4 it looked really bad - like I was playing in monochrome. :(

Neither my other two current games of Crysis or Gears of War suffer from it. Neither did the COD4 demo, strangely enough.

It maybe an SLi issue. I did read on a few forums that the AMD Dual Core Optimiser (or lack of it) could be the issue if its not been installed. I've checked that though and I'm on the latest version?

^^ as said, make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card.

Just downloading the latest driver now - cheers guys.

Interestingly, it says it's the recommended driver for Crysis as well. So far, that's been a-ok for me.

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Had similar on FSX on my 8800, seemed to decide not to bother with a load of textures. I'll do some more ferkling tomorrow when I get to play with it and let you know?

Cheers Mike - much appreciated.

Another effect it does is rapidly flicker the 'black' sections - almost like on and off. Only does it at certain times - but it's really off-putting, legging it after your team who are flashing on and off! ;)

Right,

Appears to be memory related - not overly familiar with the settings on COD4 but can you turn down draw distance (not much at all) - it doesn't appear to be SLIing properly so it's sticking all the textures in one card then not getting the rest.

Managed to have another 'mess' before I saw your post above. It's definitely SLi related (now there's a surprise ) as COD4 comes with a option for Dual Cards.

It's off by default and the game plays fine. When I activate it, that's when I get the issues as seen above. I wonder if the issue therefore is some confusion between SLi and COD's Dual Card mode? By that, they conflict with each other?

I wonder if with the PC set to SLi mode, the O/S handles the dual cards itself and ignores the COD software to do the same job? In ticking the Dual Cards option box in COD, this makes the game try to force-run both cards when the O/S is already handling that bit fine - hence the graphical issues?

Dual cards to me could mean either an SLi or X-Fire setup - both are like chalk and cheese from one another. On the previous COD3, I recall an option to 'Optimize for SLi' - which in turn ran the game perfectly (and noticably quicker, I hasten to add!).

I'll look for the draw distance option you mention, but I'll also try it with Dual Cards disabled and stick on the inbuilt nVidia test lines to see if SLi is still running.

It could be as simple as that. :)

Possibly, it could also be that the dual card option lets you run two monitors seperately? Never thought of that sort of thing on a FPS, but hey.
