Blasting and coating prices.

What prices have folk been paying for blasting and coating car parts?

Most places seem to want to see the stuff before quoting, which isn't ideal in the current conditions. I've also no idea what is and isn't reasonable as I've not had anything done in years.

Considering doing subframe and rear axle, stub axle flanges, wishbones etc for blasting and powdercoating and the usual aluminium engine castings for vapor/aqua blasting

Yeah they will want to usually see what they are dealing with. I paid £40 to have a rear beam blasted and coated in black. I am just about to drop another with the coaters but this time get him to do the brackets so I expect the bill to be £50/60.
 
Oh they undoubtedly will before taking on the work, but rather than drive round three places all of which are an hours drive away, with a boot full of crap, if I can get some ballpark for what folk are paying I can probably stop at the first place.

Shows the difference from place to place 😳 my beam cost £200!

Was zinc plated before coating but a big difference in price
 
Doesn’t sound crazy, Zinc plating will have added the bulk of that cost for something that big. Unless you mean it was just zinc primer.

Sadly it's like trying to get a quote from a tradesman without losing an evening of your life. Some industries just wont.

I suspect the big thing is more places are industrial and cba with having a decent online presence or someone doing quotes. Where you find retail stuff or people with stock offering exchange the costs rise dramatically for that convenience.

I'm happy to take them somewhere, just want a gauge of whether the price is reasonable to save visiting multiples places.
 
Alistair, probably best you tell us where you are? Maybe someone can recommend a business local to you that’s sensible. You are right, I found it a bloody minefield finding someone who was half sensible. Most of them are not interested in the ball ache of private customers. Imagine how many get harassed with ‘can you sort my bike frame’
 
Imo i wouldnt powdercoat the rear parts, a good quality paint job is much better at getting battered with stones etc and easy to do once blasted, coating looks good for a year max then just needs repaired all the time to keep it looking good....most disagree but been there done it,

My beam still looks like it did when it was first done 5 years ago. Probably due to the zinc plating before paint

Yeah maybe bud, ive just always found it to fail on awkward areas, bolt holes etc....Once it chips it's just a downward spiral in that local area, pain in the ass and annoying at the same time
 
I think I paid £100 to get mine blasted and powdercoated, very chippy though as @npt says. A bit disappointing really but it looked like an anchor beforehand
 
I’ve just been quoted £180 + VAT for a pair of hubs and lower arms. That’s just for aqua blasting. Seemed steep.
 
I paid £60 to have the inlet manifold vapour blasted.
To be honest it wasn't for the appearance, I just wanted the internal cleaned before trying to polish and match the ports.
Couldn't believe how new it looked!

Sorry this is absolutely useless for the OP as I am in Kent, and it was a local very small company.
Just a good excuse to show off my shiny manifold...........
 
A lot of it’s going to depend on the type of powder coat they use as well.
If it’s a place the specialises in motorsport then the finish is going to hold up much better vs a company that does handrails etc.
 
I think it gives a better finish than hammerite and dries a bit quicker.

Looks great I have found the quality of Hammerite has deteriorated over the years as the quality is not as good as it was. In fact the Baufix stuff from Lidl has proved better!! and that servo looks fantastic!!
