blowing exhaust= how much hp loss

  RB 182 195bhp
Try a 4.2 tdi a8 .... 60 in 5.6 anyone ... remapped they are mind blowing

And audi should have made a v10 tdi r8 , just because ....

It's all very well saying a 4 litre v8 twin turbo diesel is faster, but that's hardly a fair comparison, it is twice the capacity of a Clio, and this whole thread started about a "standard tdi bora" so any comments of a remapped and heavily modified Leon Cupar tdi or a v8 audi are irrelevant, as that's not the car in question. If its any petrol car vs diesel car then you would be comparing the Audi to a veyron or similar surely? The statements made were that a standard tdi bora will not keep up with a standard 1*2, and that is fact. :end thread:

Did someone just say they could keep with 350cdi Merc up to 100. Just f**kinh lol.

Well he didn't get away. I stayed dead level with a C320 CDI too up to 100. He gave me a thumbs up actually he was an older guy.

I've got no reason to lie. Maybe the 350 wasn't trying but the 320 certainly was.

How ... why would any merc race you ... they are quicker its fact

And I didnt compare the audi to the clio I was talking about the audi vs the merc

Over 70mph the massive torque of most reasonably quick diesels will walk away ......and fwiw try racing a 120d 1series if you want to use another small car again

Come on lol... The stats don't stack up there, nowhere near.

I had a blast with a 325d coupe (3l) a few years ago and had no issue getting away from it. People get far to hung up on all the torque figures when (as Chip can explain far better than me) there is more to it than that.

we were talking straight line speed here not track times , and there was a claim that a clio would beat an e350 or e320 to 100mph ..... it won't .

a 120d does not have a very high top speed compaired to the mercs so thinking about it i take that back ..... but an e350 will blow a clio into the weeds to 100mph .... round a track its a different matter obviously .

the thing to remember is once even something like a vag diesel is rolling there mid range makes a huge amount of different , and yes you need torque and bhp , but very torquey diesels tend to have longer gearing and thus stretch there legs in the mid to upper ranges far quicker ....

the mercs 7 speed box makes a huge difference as well as its so slick at shifting if you spool up the turbo off the line with your left foot on the brake they launch hugely quick

and for the guy who can do a 320cdi for sure check the quater mile times on that as fast laps don't have a 0-100

and if you don't think torque has an effect the e350 weighs 1730kgs thats 650 kgs more than a clio but only has 50bhp more ........ but it has over twice the torque , so maybe thats why it does 60 in 6.1 and 100 in 14.5

merc power to weight 131 bhp/tome , clio 165bhp/ton ....... so you tell me does torque make a difference ?

Ok then neither of them must have been trying. The C320 driver must have chased me up to 100mph to give me a thumbs up because I looked like a nice lad.

I'm not saying 182's are rocket ships. I was just saying my experience.

I was actually looking at the 0-100 rather than the lap times re the BMW. I've no doubt that the big Mercs torque helps their performance but at the other end of the scale you could have an F1 car with big HP, high revs and appropriate gearing with little torque and they're still very quick...

Back to the Bora though a standard one will not keep up when the Clio is on the boil. I'm not saying the Vag's are slow and I'm not saying the Clio is the fastest thing ever but that is the case with these two.

As I said early on its what the speed and Situation is when they go ... standing start the clio will win ... rolling even a bora the field levels alot more

from my experience my car eats diesels. my bro and my friend have astra 1.9cdti 's mapped to 210hp my car (strong 182) when i went out for a drive would pull away! they do weigh like 1330kg though

got to say aswell when i first bought my car it was running a blowing oem exhaust which was rattley and awful. Had no power low down at all. swapped for a ktec full system and decat and felt alot faster!
One other thing is our your revving it enough ? definitely get it wayyy past 6krpm before you change if you are going for it!
