In actual fact, the PS3 is the only BD player than can have firmware updates via the internet as none of the standalone players actually have internet connections (unlike all standalone HD DVD players where ethernet connections are part of the HD DVD standard). So if you want a firmware update for your lovely new £900 BD player, you'll have to wait for the manufacturer to develop an EPROM update and physically take the player into the store from which you bought it from, and they will probally send it off for a few weeks to have it done - ala some 1st gen SD DVD players years ago when certain players couldnt load the menus on the Matrix disc! And this will only happen within the 12 month warranty no doubt as well... After this and your paying for it.
I cant believe they have released players without finalising the format, thats just stupid, but as usual the consumer pays the price.
