Blu-ray reviews and chit chat thread.

Thought it a good idea to post this rather than clog up the HT thread.

So what have you got incoming? What have you watched recently and your review?

I currently have a few to watch and am churning through The Pacific right now - very crisp transfer and hefty audio makes it a rather good watch.

So far though, by far the best i've watched in terms of presentation and transfer has to be Looper - would definitely recommend this.

Come on then chaps :)

The David Attenborough Life and Planet earth boxset Should be in every ones collection, it's so visually stunning and massively immersive that I've been speechless many times.
Iron man is also amazing in high definition.

I'm very tempted to add Life and Planet Earth to my collection, they always seem well rated.

Just bagged The Dark Knight trilogy for £12 - result :)

I've got a few on their way :

Only God Forgives
N0ddie - I've never had the inclination to watch Avatar - it just doesn't appeal to me :S

Tempted to take a punt on The Hobbit.

The LOTR trilogy isn't the best transfer to Blu Ray tbh. The Hobbit though looks superb.

The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight Rises

On their way.

It's purely to add to the collection. Peoples biggest misconception of FOTR is the green hue means a poor transfer - it's actually intended by Peter Jackson and amplified in certain scenes. Definitely not a reference disc though.

Casino Royale is apparently is a reference disc so this will be ordered.

Thats an oldie now. I can remember launch day PS3 folk were given it free.

I'll be picking up Pacific Rim tomorrow on Blu Ray. Really enjoyed the film at the cinema and reckon it'll be an awesome Blu Ray showcase.

Will feed back tomorrow.

I meant to say Skyfall :(

Put an offer in for 'The Place Beyond the Pines' steel book.

Let us know what you think of it - seems to be a pretty run of the mill film by all accounts - albeit with decent visuals.

Picked Skyfall up for £8 in HMV. The Sherlock Holmes films (Downey Jnr ones) are £10 for the 2 of 'em. So picked them up to.

Also so got The Amazing Spider-Man, X-Men: First Class, Pacific Rim and Ironman 3.

Sherlock holmes is another shout. Brilliant films.

Still not got round to watching them yet. Look promising though.

Nice haul there - I really liked the Spider-Man reboot - even over the Sam Raimi trilogy.

Got this on it's way too :) :

Star Trek Into Darkness is a really good Blu ray "experience". Watched it last night.

The Amazing Spider-Man is another awesome "showcase" for Bluray. Just finished watching it and loved it. Much better than the "Toby McGuire" lovey dovey nonsense and definitely worth the £7 purchase.

I Am Legend is worth picking up if your looking for something to showcase your home cinema. The opening scenes in particular are very good.

Yep i can highly rate Life and planet Earth, both some of the first Blu-rays i got and still its hard to compete with :)
I really don't rate the planet earth box set at all, I have it and thought it was just ok, quite grainy which is fine for a film, but not for something like that. I also don't think it was all filmed on the best equipment because it had been filmed for years and hd was only just starting to get popular.

one of the best I have seen is the dark knight, the IMAX scenes in that are something else.

From memory it's only certain clips but the only thing I detest about blu ray is grain. It looks f**king hideous.

The Sherlock Holmes films are superb on Bluray.

Though next to the BluRay awesomeness of Pacific Rim they look pants lol. PR looks so bloody good.

Looking forward to seeing how good Gravity should look on Blu Ray, can't wait to check that one out again in 3d on my home set up.

From memory it's a grainy film? Look ok on bluray?

It looks great. The 80's colours pop on the right setup.

The lack of dialogue and emphasis on reactions / extreme bursts of violence and emotion make this film.

Cannot wait to watch 'Only God Forgives' now.

The UK version of planet earth is only 1080i, the only reason I didn't buy it. Best Blu ray by far for quality is casino royale.
