Just been reading various places about planet earth, and it seems it was released in 1080p and i, in both regions, I have the original p version, but the special edition was i, but it's reported to be the better quality release as it's what the scenes were originally shot in.

also, confirming what I was saying, a lot of it was only filmed at 720p and up scaled as there went the availability of 1080p cameras when this was shot in the early 2000s.
