Bonnet Support

  Twingo Dynamique
Not sure if this has been on a thread before, or whether some clios have it already?

What i'm on about is a mechanism (like boot lid) so that when you pop the bonnet, then pull the catch open on the front and push the bonnet up, it will stay up!! Hope you know what i mean? like, without having to use the little leg thing on the right which i always bend out of shape cuz i forget to take it out... oops.. :L

Cheers,

James

Someone was selling them on here a few years back.

Can buy kits of eBay I believe.

Bonnet lifters or struts are the best things to search for.

I used to do these but strut costs started going through the roof! If people are interested though then I can look into selling the package again.

I've done it to my megane, boot struts from a seat Leon (only one ATM) and 2 brackets welded to the bonnet and the car and voila

Is there any way of seeing if a strut fits without actually fitting it? I don't want to start welding/bolting on brackets and then finding they're too far apart or the bonnet won't close properly :/

It's easy to do and measure up, just takes time and patience. And it's not something easily explained over the Internet

Lol I'll try...

What I did was find a point on top of the engine bay where I could fix the strutt and where it would have enough room in the bay so it wouldn't catch anything. Then I welded a bracket there and attached the strutt.

To mark the bonnet bracket out you have to lay the strutt down and push it closed so see roughly where it will sit when it's compressed and the onset is shut and make a reference to it on the car. Then shut the bonnet and transfer the markings and weld a bracket on the markings. This should work as long as there's a place on the Clio to fit said brackets

Bonnet struts are a bit old skool now so i would assume there are plenty of 'how to fit.......?' guides out there somewhere.
Also aint there some universal kits out there? I would think that boot struts would be too long for the job. You dont really want the struts sitting half way down the wing, but up nearer to the bulk head, say strut top area???

Just look inside a 106 engine bay, they have struts. Can use the same measurements and markings i would imagine plus there are plenty of 106's in scrappies all over so can pick a couple up for cheap.
