Brake Issue

  RSC 182 Cup
Hi all,

I had my first track day earlier this month. Wow what a real hoot! I loved it.

My 182 cup has stock disks and ds2500 front pads and stock rears. Brakes were faultless on the day. No hint of fade. Fantastic. Due to this non fading performance I might have overdone things in doing too many laps. 15 laps per session including a cool down lap, and a total of 5 sessions for the day. Its a 2.2km circuit.

Everything was fine on the day. Didn't drive the car the next day. I now seem to have a brake issue. Brakes are squiling/squeking alot more than before, and when I apply brakes, its as though the brakes are on/off/on in a shuddering/jerking type of way. This happens when brakes are cold and warm.

I will go and see my mechanic on Monday, but in the interim I'd like to know what you guys think. Is it a disc issue, or pads. Pads only have about 1000km's plus that 1 trackday. Discs have about 60000 km's.

Cheers

it sounds like you've either boiled your fluid (although pedal feel won't be the same), or the pads have become glazed slightly. Might just need a good heat cycle on them. DS2500s do squeel at low speed though.

sounds more like you have pad material transfered onto the disc. Usually occurs if you come off the track and put your handbrake on or when the brake pads are taken near their temperature limits.

Kam didn't go off track and when back in pits I left car in first gear and no handbrake. Pad temp limits might be the go for sure. I remember after first session the brakes looked like the were having a smoke for a couple of minutes. I was told be someone I should allow for a cool down lap. I didn't on my first session.

maybe on/off isn't explaining the feeling correctly. The feeling is like the disc is somwhat warped. Its like how a train brakes (in increments) Its hard to explain.

Does it judder through your steering? If so they are warped discs, if there is no judder I would say they are glazed, try getting a heat in them again and see if they come good.

No judder through the steering. Will try getting some heat in them.
Thanks for the help
