Re: Bren's Sunflower 172

Love it, got to be one of the last mint sunflowers.

Steering wheel looks good ;)

Cheers, I wouldn't say it's "mint" there are still a few little things that need sorting out. I really want to get it into the bodysgop to get a few little imperfections sorted out.

The steering wheel made a huge difference, massive imporvement.

BTW - I had a nosey at your car at BTM the other week, love the colour!

oh right, makes sense. I've had this wheel for ages, was on my MK5 Zetec-s oh so long ago. Beats the Renalt windmill you get as standard.

Re: Bren's Sunflower 172

Finally sorted out the camber on the front, didn't take long and improved the handling substantially. The turn-in is fantastic now. Just need some decent tyres to compliment everything.

Re: Bren's Sunflower 172

Whilst waiting for f0xy to pop down and show me how to do the tracking on the drive, I gave the car a good clean and took a couple of pics before the light completely faded.... all ready for RR meet at RS Tuning tomorrow morning. We finished everything at midnight, and I'm up at 7:30 to set off to Leeds. Grim.

How she is sitting at the moment.

Re: Bren's Sunflower 172

Off to RS Tuning today for the NE RR day. Was a little anxious A) I wasn't sure if the car would actually get on the rollers, due to it being so low. B) With it being a new car, I wasn't entirely sure how it was running. With the MIL light being on, but performance not noticably lacking, I couldn't be sure if any issues would come up.

Thankfully, all seems well. The car was recently serviced, and I'm just yet to change the spark plugs.

SwissTrip2011NickPatricia046.jpg

I don't know anything about air/fuel ratios, so hopefully someone can give me some insight as to what the graph below is really telling me. Lean/Rich?

SwissTrip2011NickPatricia047.jpg

And just a cheeky one to give you an idea of just how low it is, and why it was a bit of a struggle to get it on the rollers. Think there was 3-5mm gap between the subframe and the rollers

SwissTrip2011NickPatricia050.jpg

Good day, think an RS Tuner is in order sometime soon. Some examples running well on them today.

Re: Bren's Sunflower 172

Nice one, should be happy enough with that. Looks awesome too!

Cheers man, seems to be running pretty well which I'm happy with.

Nice motor!

The front wheels look lost in those arches though.

Cheers dude, thanks to the silly offset on the ph1 F1s I think I'll need either some different wheels or a set of spacers on the front.

Little bit of an update too... NEVER BUY A POWERFLOW EXHAUST!! - this came with one already fitted, it's boomy as hell and Ive been meaning ot change it, but that decision may have been made for me tonight. Started blowing from the centre in Manchester, headed home all was well. Got off the motorway and *clunk/bang/grind* - exhust full on fell off. Hanginge from the rear beam I managed to limp home at about 3mph. (1 mile if that). Unbelievably loud as it's basically just running on the manifold. Bring on a bodge fix tomorrow, and the look out for a standard replacement, and then a better catback. Ideally Yozza, just don't want to pay the silly price tag.

Re: Bren's Sunflower 172

Finally got around to taking a look at the exhaust.. just another example as to why powerflow are cr*p. The flange has ripped off, thank to crappy welds.

Jesus!

Nice car by the way, one day I will own a sunflower PH1!

thanks man, love it more and more every time I drive it. Going to be sat in the driveway until I can get down to Pipewerx (exhaust specialist) on Thursday.

Re: Bren's Sunflower 172

The lowness just totally spoils it for me, looks ridiculous and is sure to spoil what the car is about - that cant drive nice?

Other than that I liked it

Re: Bren's Sunflower 172

decent power for standard car, should be chuffed!

Yeah I'm pretty happy, just good to know it's running well. From other peoples results at the RR day it seems like Matched inlets and an RS Tuner is the way to go. not going ot rush things though, enjoy it with the power it has now. I don't want to go figure chasing.

Going to be booking the car in at Pipewerx to have the exhaust sorted... it's SO loud though, I'll need ot be careful I don't get pulled. If it gets a bit rediculous then I'll just pull up and ring the AA to tow me there.

Aiminig for Thursday morning, in itme for Awesomefest. (had to get the peasant wagon to work today :( )

Haven't had a chance to adjust the fronts yet, will be raised a tad, but not a huge amount. What doesn't help is the front tyres are 45 profile and the rear are 50. Shall be changing them when I can. Also given the offset of the F1s the fron wheels are lost in the arches. Probably some new wheels in order later down the line.

In terms of driving, it handled like a pig before the tracking and camber was sorted. Has excellent turn-in and grip now though. I was worried it would ruin the handling, but it is just as good if not better than standard (removed a lot of the roll in the corners, and better front end grip)

Re: Bren's Sunflower 172

Off to pipewerx this morning to get the exhaust sorted, was pretty horrible driving down on just the manifold, but got there without being pulled (phyew).

Sacked off the shagged centre box, and welded in a straight 2 1/4" pipe. Mostly because I don't want to spend money on this crap powerflow exhaust. Decided to stick straight tip on whilst I was there as there was a 'stealth' tip on there (which made no sense as there is a massiv cutout in the bumper from a previous owner).

Ph2 bumper will be on soon, and a trip to the bodyshop next week. Now I need to set off for Awesomfest for the weekend!!
Yes it's at a slight angle, I quite like it.

better :)

RE PH2 bumper, please don't. It's your car but the sunflower suits the ph1 rear end better than most!

Your old fiesta was really nice btw

Cheers dude.

Had a slight issue this weekend, on the way to Awesomfest the engine mount gave up. So we had to rig it up with some rubber. Believe it or not is was a strip of rubber tread about 50cm long that flew of a tyres from one of the drift cars. Pobably more solid than an oem one now. I've got the next week off work, so I have a few things that need sorting out.

New rear bearings arrived, so shall be getting them pressed into the rear discs this week. The discs have plenty of life left in them, so new bearings (£25 for the pair) is better than paying £100+ for a set of discs. New PFR6E-10 spark plugs arrived, so they need fitting at some point.

Depending on funds... a trip to the bodyshop. With regards to the rear bumper, this one has a silly cutout that really annoys me, plus the ph1 bumper has always baffled me as it just completely doesn't suit the rest of the car. So a ph2 (which I've had for about a year) will be going on soon.

Oh no.. not another ba5tardised ph1 :(

Looks great as it is! With the exception of the trimmed bumber, as you said. Out of interest, what is it that "baffles" you about the rear bumper fella? The ph2 rear bumper shares no characteristics of the ph1 front bumper what so ever.. :s

Thanks man, it does get a lot of looks and is a hell of a lot of fun. :approve:

Exhaust looks really good now!

Thanks man, loving it. Really quiet on the motorway, nice little bit of rasp higher up the revs.

Another puritan... I can appreciate that some cars shouldn't be fettled with, but I have a big problem with the rear end of the ph1. It's not about the front and rear bumpers sharing characteristics, it's about the line of the body not matching the rear bumper in any way. Specifically there is a crease down the rear quarter that carries on down ph2 bumper, where as the ph1 is just completely out of sync.

This is a crap way of showing you what I mean...

Re: Bren's Sunflower 172

Very valid point with the sweige line there Bren. Never looked at that and how it continues down onto the ph2 bumper before.

However, for me, the ph2 rear and the ph1 front just look way too much of a miss-match.... Yes I am a self confessed purist lol.

What ever you choose to do, i'm sure it'll be well done.

Re: Bren's Sunflower 172

Glad I'm not imagining things.

Ph2 colourcoded side strips, maybe cc'd door handles too... we'll see. May be nipping to the bodyshop tomorrow for a quote.

I love this car.

Such a good colour!

Also, looks low as fcuk!!! :)

Cheers dude, the front is pretty damn low, will be raised a tad when I can be arsed.

Due to being so tired, sunburnt and lazy I didn't bother going to the bodyshop to get a quote. However I did manage to pick up the bearings that I may be able to get pressed in tomorrow, and I nipped around to f0xy's to pick up my ph2 sport bumper that I bought nearly a year ago. Still need to fit these spark plugs, and diagnose that weird rattle from the rear shocks.

Re: Bren's Sunflower 172

Was planning on doing a few bits today, but I just couldn't be arsed to be frank. So I'll leave it until tomorrow (I've got the week off). I was also planning on getting all the spray work done this week, but due to a couple of unexpected bills its' going to have to wait until next month.

Thanks to plenty of requests plus a little boredom, I decided to get some vids of the new exhaust.

Re: Bren's Sunflower 172

I do love yellow rs's :) this is going to look naughty as f**k with the ph2 rear bumper... I so want a sunflower or LY :(

Also, are you spacing those front wheels? They look a little lost :p

I'm not a huge fan of the ph2 rear lights if I'm honest. We'll see though.

Definitely will be getting some spacers on the front, the wheels do look very lost. Was hoping for possibly getting some new wheels with a lower offset, but I think it could be a while until I can afford some.
