Build me a PC...

  BMW E46 330i Touring
Just a bit of a time-wasting exercise for any PC buffs that fancy spending a few minutes...

After Xmas I'll be getting a new PC and I was considering a laptop for a while before realising that they're a comparative rip-off. So, with a budget of £700 give or take, can someone put together a PC for me (and relevant links).

  • Not much gaming, only basic stuff like Footy Manager.
  • Plenty of memory-hungry programmes.
  • Currently have a monitor, but would appreciate upgrade suggestions - if one can be included in the price then all the better!
  • Needs to be relatively future-proof and easily upgradable.
Cheers :)

I don't know specific details of what I'm after, which is why I'd want someone to list a fairly decent spec for the money. I've had a look at overclockers but I don't know whether, for example, it's worth paying an extra £50 for upgrade from Dual Core 2GHz to 2.4GHz.

As above, stunning graphics aren't essential, but I'd still want to play video, and I want it to be quick with plenty of storage.

Right i get ye sorry. If i were you, id buy the Q6600 2.4 GHz. Ive got mine overclocked to 3.2GHz (on a decent cpu cooler, and beyond) and it flys on everything.

For a Maximum Of £700. And im presuming you want a full system. Q6600 2.4GHz, 2GB 1066 DDR2 Ram, Asus P5Q motherboard, 650W PSU, Antec 300 Gaming case, PNY Geforce 8800GT 256mb, Tuniq 150 CPU Cooler.

That completes the tower with a mediocre Graphics card at £512.22

Add a cpu cooler if you want to overclock:

£559.21

It only leaves you with £150 for a monitor though and we all know you aint gunnna get much for that.

Alternativly.

Im at £702.56 here im afraid. Smaller hard drive, and cheaper, but still very good ram and no cpu cooler meaning you can overclock but not by too much.

My 2p.

Depends on hwat your after from a system really mate. That Setup was similar to the one i was looking for origionally. By snooping about cliosport also you might pick up a decent motherboard for a good price or a cpu for cheaper. Never know mate.

Magic, that's a big help thanks mate. I am thinking it'd probably be wiser to get a slightly lesser spec system to allow for a better monitor, as the system will still be more than enough for what I need it for (for now anyway, no doubt it'll be dragging it's arse in no time...).

Aye, you could always downgrade the dam, see if you can get some cheaper 800mhz stuff instead of the 1066. Just a case of trial and error. i wanted to biuld a PC which was gunna be relativly cheap and load my p**n faster. I have a similar setup tbh, dont knoww hat i spent but it was miles more than i wanted tbh.

heh. It plays crysis on high like i wanted it to.

My new hard drive MIGHT arrive today who knows. Only a few more things i want to upgrade now, tempted to get more ram totaling 4GB, a new psu, and another graphics card of some sort.
